Mass Effect 3 director defends DLC, endings with 'common sense'

@Chris DPSN AggieCEO XBLThe Aggi

I always wonder what people like you, who have this "Should have been on the disc" argument do for a living. I personally work in manufacturing, printing to be specific. One thing that we have to understand when a customer needs to have something ready for a large event and needs thousands if not millions of something produced in time for it to be released they need to get it done EARLY, and each specific piece can take a different amount of time. Manufacturing takes time.

Think about all the pieces in the Collectors edition, the art book, the game case, the disc(s), the inserts, all that had to be made, and packaged together in time for the release at the same time as the regular standard edition which also contains a case, and disc(s) and has to be assembled all before it hits the store shelf. And what happens if the art books take a week to produce? and the others only take three days? You have to coordinate having everything ready at the same time for assembly and packaging before it can be shipped to a store.

Its almost like some people thing that the game was developed, printed, produced and packaged in the back room of the store they walked in to buy it.

Just cause you have weeks between "Finished" and "On the Shelf" doesn't mean you could have still crammed more on the disc.

Another big selling point, and one I realized last night was the always-on availability of the kinect.

If i want to play the game, and use the voice commands I don't have to find a headset, plug it in and wear it. The Kinect is right at my TV, it turns on at the same time as my Xbox, and I don't look like a weirdo wearing a headset to play a single player game. It's voice command without an obtrusive peripheral.

Conducting a symphony of destruction in Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor

@Haunted CoinOp

During a business meeting at Capcom circa 2010:

Board member A: Hey guys we should make another Steel Battalion game! We can make another $200 specialized controller for use only one game. Kids these days really like that in their games right? I mean look at all the stupid guitar shaped controllers people bought for Guitar Hero.

Board Member B: That's true, but guitar hero has a broad mass appeal. Playing guitar? Being a rock and roll hero? That's a dream anyone can have. Plus you can play the guitars together, and its family friendly. I don't think there's enough mass appeal for "Simulated mech combat circa 1940." Let's see if there is another expensive piece of tech that we can integrate into our next Steel Battalion that will have a broader appeal, a lower barrier of entry, and will have a hardcore audience clamoring for a game that is up to their standards.

Board Member C: Um...Kinect?

Wreckateer smashing up XBLA this spring, and it's totally your fault

@Dekkadekka

I agree. There is no reason that this couldn't be played better on a controller.

It looks like you probably have to stand up, pull your arms back to set the amount of force in the catapult/slingshot/ballista/trebuchet turn your body to aim and then release to fire. Offering not only a visceral experience, but involving your whole body into the actions on-screen.

Pressing X to fire is way more intuitive, and we all know that using a controller is a much lower barrier of entry.

Stan Lee to be playable in The Amazing Spider-Man

Mar 1st 2012 11:00AM (Joystiq)
I think Stan was a little confused in this interview. I'm betting he's actually "Playing a Character" not "A Playable Character" in the new game. I mean the guy is like 80-something. I doubt he had it all together to know what the interviewer was even asking. I'm not gonna hold my breath on this one.

Warp review: Patchwork puzzle action

@soniccar

While I appreciate your devotion to not supporting a corporation you've deemed as evil. The fact you used "can't" instead of "won't" in your decision, clearly shows that you still have some desire to buy it.

I also wonder what your reasons for not wanting to purchase EA games is? This game is essentially the exact opposite of all the things that most people find wrong with the games industry. It's a small (independent?) developer, a fairly original idea, and somewhat well executed. Not an over budgeted, over marketed, kill fest meant to drain you of every penny you earn through a constant stream of map DLC and annual expansions.

Kinect for Windows out today

Feb 1st 2012 3:14PM (Joystiq)
@Mcmax3000
I think the best way to solve this mystery is to crack one open and compare the internal hardware with that of the Xbox version of Kinect. If they're both the same, it could be upgraded with a firmware update, or software. if they're drastically different we'll have to wait till next generation.

Kinect for Windows out today

@kilroy214

My theory right now is that the new 720 will be launch with a new version of Kinect but also have a compatibility with current Kinect hardware. So that current owners of the hardware could save money and buy just the 720, while new customers could buy the 720 and Kinect 2.0 bundle together.
Functionality would remain largely the same, and wouldn't necessarily split the user base between 2.0 and 1.0 users.

Battlefield 3 soliciting feedback for gun attachment tweaks via Reddit thread

@eat it
The point is you were accomplishing the mission.

I understand your frustration though. In a lot of team sports and games there is a strange credit given to players who may or may not have had everything to do with the result of a game.

In Hockey, when a game ends with one team having a score of 0, the goalie is said to have "Shut out the other team" and stats are even tracked for how many times a goalie has gotten a shut out, even if the defenders and forwards were doing most of the work keeping the puck away from the goalie.

In Baseball, a pitcher bears the burden of having to pitch a "No Hitter". Even if he could pitch 27 pitches and get 27 pop-flies all the left field, the player in left field gets no credit for catching, but the pitcher gets all the credit for a no hitter.

In Football, the quarterback is one who will bear the brunt of all reaction. The Quarterback threw the interception, the quarterback got sacked.

So really you did the right thing, you were the quarterback, goalie, or pitcher of your Battlefield team. everyone else was playing defense/offense, for you too accomplish the teams objective, winning.
