Okay, you do realize that when surveys say that gamers care more about one thing than another, they are talking on the average, right? They're not actually saying that every single gamer values progress over story. So saying that *some* gamers care *as much* about the story doesn't really discount the findings. Plus, just because progress is tied into the plot doesn't mean that the player *cares* about the plot. I've made lots of progress in games that with stories that I couldn't care less about.
As for first 'person shooters', that is really funny. And people say games aren't politically correct. We don't make 'man shooters' or 'women shooters'. We're very open-minded about who we shoot. :)
For that matter I wonder what the FIRST 'person shooter' actually was. In Defender you could shoot people. Are space invaders people too...?
I hate it when people tell me not to do stuff! The other day I was about to cross the street and the sign said "Don't walk" and I was like, OMG!!11 I can never walk again. How am I going to get home?
You used to be able to sync pocketpc's over wifi. Then, just as wifi was becoming a standard feature in ppc's, MS removed the feature from the new version of activesync (the only one that works with WM5 devices) and haven't put it back yet!
So don't buy a Zune with the assumption that MS will add more wifi features. There are lots of people clamoring to be able to sync their ppc's over wifi, but MS won't let them.
You're right about one thing: most people aren't understanding that your argument is hypothetical. But that's not the problem. The problem is that the hypothetical argument you are presenting simplifies the situation to the point of being idiotically meaningless. Yes, the point of a hypotheitcal argument is to simplify things, but the logical path that you have laid out requires people to pretend to be much MUCH stupider than they actually are.
This is what I see happening.
You say: All other things being equal, blablabla
Then the readers say :Ah! But all other things aren't equal!
Then you say: Ah! But my original post was just to set up my conclusion which is that... all other things aren't equal!
The problem is that everybody is way ahead of you and the point you seem to be trying to make really doesn't require multiple posts. And the problem is worsened because, as the readers try in vain to find some meaning in your argument, they trip over all the non-hypothetical stuff you say about how much faith Nintendo has about their console.
Even in your simplified version of the argument, you make the consoles different colors and then later say that the color doesn't matter. In other words, the colors are different, but not REALLY different. In other words, the consoles are perfectly identical, which is something about your argument that you don't seem willing to admit, probably because it makes the argument pratically useless.

And BTW, only some Canadian provinces have laws restricting the sale of violent videogames, and they aren't exactly the centres of Canadian culture.
