Grasshopper's PS3 game may make Marvelous 'bankrupt'

Jun 17th 2009 5:24AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Killer 7 was mad. I never finished it personally but the hours I did spend playing it on gamecube left a strange (good) impression on me. I would love something similar for the PS3!

Hands-on: Battle Tanks

Jun 8th 2009 7:31AM (Joystiq)
Yeah I also had Combat on my Atari VCS.. and the way the bullets work in this is a direct rip of that game. It was addictive as hell to me as a... tiny little kid but I will reserve judgement on this 'update' of a 31 year old game...

wow I feel old.

PSN Thursday: Ready to buy Resident Evil again?

May 29th 2009 7:42AM (Joystiq)
Sony must be fucked in the head if they think i'd pay to D/L the SAME game I played first on PS1 over a decade ago, then VASTLY AND GORGEOUSLY improved on the Gamecube (amazing version that I DID rebuy cos it was worth it).

Come on this is PS3 I want a version that's evern BETTER than the gamecube version and would pay around $20 for it... all they have to do is jiggle the assets and use one of their ps3 engines.

European PSN releases for May 21

May 23rd 2009 5:29AM (Joystiq Playstation)
no i DO NOT go against popular/hyped games by default. I am always hoping they are as good as is written but rarely are.

I love many popular highly rated games but they have to feel slick, immersive, something 'new' (sometimes) helps. I do not tolerate technical flaws very easily I admit, and that includes poor frame rates, bad aliasing, tearing etc. If a game has THOSE it better be very special for me to endure with it.

I was looking forward to both this and prototype. The gameplay on this demo was somewhat flat and samey. Starting off on a 'directed mission' (with requisite female nag) didn't help my feelings, much less the scaled up low res look of the environment... makes my eyes bleed (a little)...

I *NEVER* base my final decision on reviews as I find, really, that the industry has to support itself (esp during the 'bleak' summer) and trust me, games WILL get overhyped for the good of everyone who works in the industry (I used to work at a large UK game studio so I know how these things work). It's all linked to income into the industry they are part of. Advertising, sponsoring etc... you don't bite the hand that feeds you.

I liked many well reviewed games (Uncharted, Motorstorm, Burnout, Dead Rising on 360, Gears, Street Fighter 4 etc) the review score (high or low) has little to do with my appreciation of a game when I try it for myself. :)

Burnout Paradise: Big Surf Island hangs ten (and then some) in debut trailer

May 23rd 2009 5:06AM (Joystiq)
Looking very good. Burnout is all ready awesome. I've only bought the (poor) party pack, and won't buy anything else for it now as great as it is. THIS however I *WILL* buy as it deserves is and is something more valid than mere skins/models/modes...

Bring on June 11th - Burnout Paradise just won't die :)

(though I did notice after recent update I lose all my online stats and have to do them again - all this 'resetting' is a bit annoying each DLC / trophy % etc)

European PSN releases for May 21

May 22nd 2009 3:58AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Disappointed by the demo. Felt pretty lame/slow and I'm fed up of scale-o-vision (blocky and pixelated). Also very VERY drab art direction. Controls were ok I Guess but some strange button choices.

Most of all I found ZERO fun in throwing electricity at 'me too' baddies... reminds me of plasmids in Bioverhypedshock (though I think it may have actually felt MORE fun in that game).

I just wish the devs would stop pushing the hardware in places it doesn't want to go, it's obvious they made graphical concessions (like GTAIV) to fit this psuedo open world in to a ps3 and yet it doesn't convince me. It's too 'over busy' with too 'similar pallete' for anything to look defined. GFX aside the gameplay felt pretty dull but then I'm getting on a bit now and I'm bored with this style of 'zap everything' - I'm sure teens will love it though.

Nielsen report reveals average game console usage

Apr 9th 2009 3:18AM (Joystiq)
This report tells me nothing I didn't know already. When my wife comes home from work telling me yet another of her older female office buddies has bought into the wii hype I know it's destined to be stored away in a dusty cupboard next to their excercise bike.

Look, lets count Wii out this gen yeah? Different markets entirely. And that's from someone who had ONLY a gamecube last gen! (had a 360 and ps3 this gen - 360 died of course). PS3 going strong as game player AND bluray player :)

Cops and Robbers DLC adds 8 new Trophies

Apr 4th 2009 1:44AM (Joystiq Playstation)
"This game just keeps on giving and giving... "

No it used to keep on giving, now it'll keep on charging :)

And yes I'm a fan of the game, it's great.. very well done in most respects. All the free DL stuff has been great.

But when I saw the price of the car packs I wasn't having any of it. I think they DO deserve a little back but those prices are ridiculous. This will also have a silly price. As for the island, wasn't that supposed to be free? Hopefully still is as it's the only one I'm interested in but if not I'll pay maybe upto £8 for that as I guess it'll be worth it.

I bought the party pack add-on and was disappointed btw with the way it did things.

Hope they get to work on a proper sequel soon.

Watch the Smash Cars trailer, eat a sandwich

Apr 2nd 2009 5:05AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Actually now I look at the trailer again it looks VERY CLOSE to RC cars from a few years back.. the way the character picks up and throws the car etc.. (They used to kick them or dogs would chase them in RC Cars).. can't remember who the devs were for that but there's definitely some crossover going on here... but it's all good :)
