NPD: Android is now top-selling OS in American smartphones

Aug 4th 2010 12:08PM (Engadget)
@DonClark
You state the obvious...but this isn't just Android surpassing iOS, this is also Android surpassing RIM. It's a huge accomplishment and one that is not fairly diminished by whatever market choices Apple has made.

There are some pretty amazing phones with Android and Google and it's partners have really succeeded in not only making a great OS with great hardware, but also making these phones available on all carriers.

Perhaps the hubris of Steve Jobs to think that consumers would come groveling to his feet to get an iPhone no matter what, is the iPhone's own undoing. Even Windows Mobile 7 is going to beat the iPhone to broad carrier availability.

I really appreciated this review and hope that Engadget gives more of it's other editors other than Josh Topolsky a chance to do some of the major reviews. Love josh, but he's not the best of reviewers and unfortunately he does all the "major" reviews.

It always annoys me when engadget does these frightening warnings about bricking phones. Your readership is better educated than that. No need for the overly stated cautions.

PR folks at Apple must honestly be rolling their eyes every time Steve Jobs forces their hand in doing something as childish and ridiculous as this.

This definately seems like price fixing to me. Just like the entire industry inexplicably raised rates on SMS text messaging.

I feel a bit burned with the Zune HD in terms of them delivering on Apps and games. It's been 7 months and they haven't done anything with Apps or games. Totally lame.

So one thing I've learned with Microsoft products, is don't buy them in hopes that some promised feature is just on the horizon. If it's not there it won't come quickly.

The only exception to this is Xbox 360, which has pretty much blown everyone away with the additional features that keep coming to it seemingly out of the blue.

Apple affirms: no software fix for iPhone 4 antenna issue

@reiththestud
The arrogance of apple to show the video of the guy singing. I can't believe that no one called them out on that. Gadget blog press people are so lame with their questions. Someone should have stood up, asked their question and not sat down until Apple answered some tough questions without the spin. To much respect and deference was given to Apple on this issue.

For the love of all that's holy!!! Someon please ask...

1) Was it you that told customers to "hold differently"
2) Why does apple delete user forums on their website when widely reported problems arise?
