The 'bullshot' dates back to Alone in the Dark

Mar 10th 2012 5:46PM (Joystiq)
As I recall there was a 1979-1981 "Omni" magazine that showed a advertisement for an Atari 2600 game that only had a limited release. It was a first-person 'mock-3d" maze game, that never came out as well as the picture showed off in its pixelated glory. I suspect that thumbing through Omni magazine from 1978 to 1985 would result in examples of bullshots for many video games.

More The Last of Us story details emerge

@kentuckyfried

They should not hook up, but they should explore the "Lot Complex" they would both be having. If this were 1912 and no 2012 a story with a "Lot Complex" theme would be expected and ould be read without comment. It is shocking how stupid we have become about human nature in only 100 years. We seem to like to lie to ourselves about what is just human nature.

Call of Duty Elite pulls in 7 million users, 1.5 million paid memberships

Feb 9th 2012 7:33PM (Joystiq)
I bought three of the four map packs from CoD BLOPs, so when the Elite membership was offered I was happy to pay to get more content, more often, and all done more conveniently.

When you consider more than 18 million Call of Duty: Black Ops map packs had been sold by Sept of last year at $15 a pop you can see people were willing to pay for content. No matter how you slice it Elite seems like it will provide MORE content for less money. A great deal for people who play.

Modern Warfare 3 Elite maps locked to one profile on one console

Good. You heard me GOOD...I'm glad that is how it works. I'm glad d-bags who switch accounts so they can screw with people on a griffer account can't play these maps on another account. I'm glad you can use the maps on you girlfriends machine. I'm glad you have to spend..ohs nos... another $5 for some maps.

Resident Evil Revelations media is suspiciously nice looking

Which is worse: The people who have not taste and thin k this melodramatic drivel is worthwhile story telling, or the people who are so cowed into their Stockholm syndrome that they are willing to accept this drivel is an okay if you 'get it' and are fearfult to admit that they don't get it.

What I just saw was garbage...bull-shot or not that was just terrible.

Xbox 360 PayPal update arrives right on schedule ... in some territories

I have never liked PayPal, it always seems shady. And it doesn't help that 90% of my phishing spam I've ever received was using PayPal as the hook.

SOCOM 4 review: Covert oops

May 9th 2011 12:49PM (Joystiq)
I think there are two concepts at work with Zipper. One, all franchisees need refresh thus SOCOM no matter what was due for a refresh since tt was defined by its PS2 games in the series. Two, Zipper had a total lack of vision of what SOCOM could or should have become since the second game in the series.

Change wasn't the problem, it was just that the sort of change needed to make SOCOM worthwhile has not happened. When you think about it SOCOM was a weird game to take off on a console, but it did work...and it became a phenomenon. Yet, instead of the fact that a difficult, idiosyncratic game become popular being understood, Zipper went the other way. They took out everything unique: voice control, unflashy and stoic game fiction, and very hands-on with controlling of teammates. From what I recall when SOCOM 1 & 2 came out nobody was saying it was too hard or too weird. Weird was the selling point, different was the selling point, and complexity was to a great extent a selling point.

The big problem as I see it was that fans wanted the game to stay complex, and Zipper did look forward to pursing a game design that was harder to make. Voice controls that work for in thirty languages, AI that is smarter, and more detailed maps and ideas are not buzz words that developers like to hear. A true SOCOM sequel would be a S.O.B, game to make...BUT SORRY THAT'S WHAT YOU NEEDS TO BE MADE IF YOU WANT TO MAKE SOCOM.

Logitech's new Xbox/PS3 headset helps you keep quiet

Sep 29th 2010 1:59PM (Joystiq)
Oh, look it runs on the 2.4 GHz band which means not only will it make you wi-fi drop out or lag but the sound will hiss like a mo-fo. Wow, that's a double rainbow win by screwing this thing up from both sides.

Take my advice folks go wired. Sure, wired looks messy, but nearly all wireless headphones hiss because of one issue or another in most real world set ups. IR units hiss when your tv puts out too which white light. Radio systems hiss because you house is full of EM emissions from everything close to your equipment. If you're the lucky 10% who has the right equipment and and the right set up it will work...but is that worth $150 bucks to test?

How would you change Apple's iPad?

May 8th 2010 6:21PM (Engadget)
- NO COMPUTER NEEDED! No use of iTunes if you don't want to use it for everything under the sun!
- Built-in stand
- Lighter weight even if it means a smaller battery
- Digital video output w/ dual screen app
- 2GB RAM (come on RAM is cheap!!!)
- Memory card slot
- USB host port without dongle
- Three cameras, two forward for a binocular pick-up and one aft. (Think about what they could do with a a binocular camera!!!)
- Flash support (come on Jobs stop being a baby)
- Stereo speakers with suitable wattage so people huddled around the screen can hear a movie.
- Digital video output w/ dual screen app, so it can be my second screen on OTHER devices
**** A better attitude towards the world instead of the nit-wit attitude Steve Jobs is pushing around lately, The backlash has been a long time in coming, but its is coming because Apple has become a company of jerks.

IGN layoffs hit all divisions of media giant

Mar 17th 2010 3:43PM (Joystiq)
I hope the podcasts stay and they just trim down on other behind the scenes units. Sadly, TRL my fav podcast doesn't update much; that would tell me that if they do cut back it would be on that podcast.
