NGP 'LiveArea' UI to support Trophies, PSN friends and messaging

Jan 27th 2011 3:13AM (Joystiq)
THAT is a revolutionary interface? It's like the iPhone with balls instead of rounded squares. I'm not saying it's not functional, just don't try to pass it off as revolutionary.

Lost Planet 2, Yakuza demonstrated on NGP

Jan 27th 2011 3:10AM (Joystiq)
Let me get this straight, this portable can play the same games as the PS3? Unless it does so at a seriously lower graphics quality level then either
1) The PS3 is woefully underpowered
2) The NGP is going to cost $5,000+

@Bubbameister33 No, they just hire assassins.

7 million happy downloads of Angry Birds on Android

Nov 30th 2010 3:44AM (Joystiq)
@Nytemare Nope, most likely due to two things. First, rampant piracy of paid android apps. Second, shameless knockoffs, and unrelated things that use Angry Birds name and assets in the Android Marketplace obscuring being able to find the actual game. I'm honestly impressed Rovio devoted the efforts to putting the game on Android and hope the ad revenues are a big enough return on investment over time to justify the extra expense. The more Angry Birders the merrier, no matter what platform.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood review: A trusty blade gets even sharper

This could be the greatest game ever, but I'm not going to reward Ubisoft for screwing over those of us with 360's with a neutered version of the game for the same price as the full version on PS3.

Why Apple's patents might show screens from third-party apps

Aug 7th 2010 11:48PM (TUAW.com)
"Not that Apple is above cherry-picking UI and functionality from third-party apps -- the iBooks interface was more or less borrowed whole from apps like Delicious Library and Classics"

Yeah, imagine Apple using books on a bookshelf as UI for a book reading app. Sorry, but that particular claim is beyond ridiculous. Delicious Library and Classics weren't the first to use it, and neither was Apple. Or are you going to accuse every calculator app ever of copying the UI from the Apple Calculator desktop accessory (or earlier calculator apps)? How about any clock app every that showed you analog or digital displays? Calendar apps that show you a view that looks like a real calendar? All rip offs.

The Pac-10 Has More Work Ahead to Overcome Natural Disadvantages

"And the SEC, as everyone has heard -- accurately -- is the toughest conference in college football."

Yes, the SEC is so incredibly tough that since 1990 they have had 11 teams go undefeated in conference play. The most challenging league in the country top to bottom? Hardly. Heck, the last time Florida played a non-conference game outside its home state? 1991 against Syracuse in New York. Thats pathetic. What exactly are these teams afraid of? Having to face REAL competition outside the one or two good teams in their own conference each year? Heck, the last time Florida played a non-conference game outside its home state? 1991 against Syracuse in New York. Thats pathetic. What exactly are these teams afraid of? Having to face REAL competition outside the one or two good teams in their own conference each year? Credit to Tennessee who isn't afraid to schedule real opponents and do home and home series with BCS conference foes. But no, i'm sorry, the SEC is a top level conference but its not THE best. Some years maybe, some years not.

iPad class action lawsuit heats up

Jul 30th 2010 7:49PM (TUAW.com)
"If you buy a car and run the engine whilst stationary in 45 degrees - would you be surprised if it overheated? Would you want to sue Ford or Toyota ? "

In 45 degree weather? I'd actually be incredibly surprised if it overheated, thats almost cold enough to see your own breath!

HP Slate no longer a consumer product, will arrive for enterprise this fall

So, not sure if Nilay has something against Apple or if he just doesn't understand what vaporware is, but the iPad isn't vaporware and never was. Just because the blogosphere generated their own rumors about the device for years before it actually became a reality doesn't qualify it as vaporware. Apple announced it, said when it would be shipping and then shipped it.
