If you removed the subsidization from gaming consoles they would die. The PC is a much better gaming platform than a console. The only reason consoles are doing so well is that they are much cheaper than a gaming PC.
I was also disappointed with the sword mechanics in Zelda, and Bad Steel for that matter. Yes, Wii Sports gets boring if you only play single player. Multiplayer is where it's at for Wii Sports.
It's funny that every time I go to a big box store I see at least 1 PS3, but oddly enough there are no Wiis. I saw 30+ PS3s last Saturday at a local Fry's but there were no Wiis! Perhaps the Sony mouthpiece meant that PS3s were flying onto the shelves.
Wow, Ben Heck does it again. This would be great for anyone who travels a lot. Imagine going on an airplane and playing Zelda! Although it might be even deadlier to pilots than the Gameboy.
@19 You have a very bad memory. M$ came out with a battery pack after the 360 launch. I guess you were too busy drooling over your PS3 to remember that. Also your all mighty PS3 didn't come with Componant cables, hell it didn't come with an HDMI cable which is necessary for its vaunted 1080p. All 3 console makers want you to buy their overpriced accessories, that's why none of them included HD cables with their consoles.
Only morons keep feeding the Wiimote monster with batteries. God that thing chugs batteries faster than SUVs chug gas.
I wish my iPod had rechargable batteries as the battery pack is ****ed. It won't work in cold weather when I go run. It would if it had rechargables.
Anyone that wants this is retarded. Go to your favorite e-tailor and buy some rechargeable batteries. It cost me $40 to get 12 rechargeables of newegg, it should cost you the same. Plus, and this is a crazy idea in modern electronics, you can use these rechargables on something else!! OMG what a crazy idea! You don't have to carry around 50 different battery rechargers! Instead you carry 1 recharger and if those batteries go bad, no problem, you just spend $5 for new batteries, not $xx to replace the nonstandard battery in your electronic device.
I am glad Nintendo did not go the way of Sony with the wiimote. Sometimes leaving it up to the consumer is a good thing. You know those SIXAXIS batteries will die/ not hold a charge eventually and when that time rolls around I doubt Sony will hold up to their promise of replacing those dead batteries. Plus those Sony batteries might just torch your SIXAXIS.
@98, Yea and by then most people will have HDTV's and 1080p will be the standard. I'm sure Nintendo will release a multicore, uber powerful machine then. And what was the last system that dominated for 10 years. Thats right no system did. That is just Sony propaganda. After 5 years the PS3 will be incredibly outdated as will the 360 and the Wii. Hell, all 3 are already outdated graphically.
The Cell crap is getting rediculus. Developers don't see the point in multithreading games becuase the cost/benefit ratio isnt there. Its not just for Console games that devs are complaining, they are also complaining about Intel's Quad Core CPUs. Really, there's only so much you can thread on a CPU. Just think about it, you have each of these on one CPU core: AI, collision detection, and physics. So there you only are using 3 cores of the 7 cores in the Cell.
Also, if I want to spend $xxx on "next gen hardware", sign me up for an Nvidia 8800GTS. It will be cheaper than a PS3 and will be 2x as powerful as the PS3.
If I get CoD3, it will be for the PC. I get better sound, picture quality, and graphics on the PC than the PS3 and Xbox360. Did I mention the controls will be better on the PC than Wii? The only FPS I will buy for a console will be Red Steel and Metroid. Everything else will be on the PC.
Oh did I mention that UT2007 will have amazing physics on the PC, and that Crysis will have to be tuned down from its full glory to run on consoles. Never say that a console game has the best graphics. It wasn't true last year and it still isn't true this year. Sure it costs more $$ but you get more use out of PC's. "Next gen doesn't start till you get a PC."
DX10 GPU's will make the 360 and PS3 look like crap.
@29 The Wii does not have "GameCube graphics". It has nearly 2x the computing power and has more than 2x the memory. The Wii is more powerful than an Xbox. It just can't put out 500 million triangles or send a 1080p signal. I expect the lighting to be really good for Wii, with decent textures, and Xbox quality jaggies.
Both Wii and PS3 will sell out to the hardcore gamer this year so the nongamer isn't a factor, yet. It's not a good idea to just forget about all the other retailers besides GameStop, but I'm sure there will be playable consoles at other stores. At the Fry's near me, they have a special area away from the Xbox360 kiosk that has an HDTV, 2 comfy chairs, and an Xbox360 that is near the main enterance. the bigger Best Buy's do the same thing with their Xbox 360's and PS2's. For both 360 demo areas, they used wireless controllers and just put the 360 in a ventilated plastic case. I would expect to see the same for Wii as it would work better for demos than a traditional kiosk due to all the extra motion involved.
@46. Have you ever heard of Linux? Its better than Windows and its certainly better than a knockoff Windows OS. Linux is bundled with the PS3.
We won't see a price drop until the 360's CPU is built with 65nm transistors, which M$ said will happen in the early part of 2007. So I would expect a price drop in Q2 or Q3 2007.
