An app with everything but sales

Dec 17th 2009 9:08AM (TUAW.com)
Well, I suppose the best way to get your product noticed is advertisement. I think a lot of developers want their product to be noticed, and expect Apple and the App store to somehow highlight their product, via top downloaded, what's new, etc, etc. But like the retail marketplace the best way to get your product noticed is by advertising, or raising awareness through blogs like Tuaw. I'm sure after being highlighted here, their sales will skyrocket.

Watch live NBA games with League Pass Mobile for iPhone

Oct 30th 2009 5:04PM (TUAW.com)
The NBA packages are all overpriced. They keep talking about how they're embracing the digital age, but basically, they keep prices high, exclude fanbase, and alienate fans from countries interested.

If David Stern really does want to bring NBA to Europe or China, he better start building up fanbase in those countries by releasing applications at afforadble prices.

Prince of Persia film posters look decidedly unterrible

Jul 21st 2009 4:40AM (Joystiq)
yeah 1st is Helvetica, the 2nd is Gotham.

Although i don't think they should switch typefaces between posters. If they're gonna use Helvetica stick with it. Or Gotham. Whichever.

VC Monday Madness: More Ninja than you can shake a shuriken at

May 14th 2007 4:16PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
personally, i find it slightly disconcerting that instead of new, real, wii games, most of the time wii owners are subjected to the latest "VC" releases.

I love retro gaming as much as the last person – but something in my heart makes me weep at the sight of my motion controls being wasted.

The top 10 most important games

Jul 4th 2006 4:00AM (Joystiq)
Doom vs Wolfenstien.
Wolfenstein created the FPS genre, and with that breakthrough deserves to be on a top 10 list of ground breaking games. Doom was an evolutionary step from Wolfenstein. Interestingly, it was Quake and it's 3D maps which pushed the genre more. (or Descent if you really want to wrestle with 3D maps).

Street Fighter II.
The absence of the fighting genre here is glaring mistake. Street Fighter spawned thousands of copycats, as well as introduced a real "combo" type of input.

Warcraft?
Again, this list lacks a RTS game. With half of korea addicted to RTS, shouldn't the RTS game that broke the mould be in this list? And if Warcraft is too "evolutionary" then something like Populas, or another "god" game should be included.

Breakout, though fun and cloned is nothing more than an evolution of Pong. Even more so, it removes the two player competition componant. on that list, Pong is the only one that pits one person against another.

And Star Wars, for all it's complexities of vector graphics, hardly defined a genre, but again was evolutionary from sprite based racing games, like Pole Position (which could arguably be on this list).

An evolution in advancing technology does not guarantee a game's groundbreaking qualities.
