The most recurring reader comments on Joystiq

Nov 15th 2006 9:44PM (Joystiq)
Personally, I think that if Joystiq adopted a commenting program like Digg, half of the problems and wars in the comment sections (and comments much like those) would become obselete. Plus it narrows down the time it takes to filter through the crap that has no need to be read. Also, the star system is kinda shady since as soon as you get a star, your opinion automatically becomes more valuable than someone else's reguardless of the topic, that and the criteria for getting a star is questionable.

Just thought I'd throw that out there...

Nintendo Wii marketing to exceed $200 million

Nov 12th 2006 10:54PM (Joystiq)
I play to God that Nintendo wows us with commercials such as this in the near future:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVpOs20CGA4

Seriously, who didn't love this commercial? Also note the legendary voice of Don LaFontaine doing the voice over.

I really wouldn't mind seeing some good Nintendo ads as they've seem to become a rarer breed as of late. I'll just be happy as long as they don't have guys curling up into the fetal position to go into morphball mode while playing Metroid...

Nintendo's new Zelda falls flat

Nov 12th 2006 1:29AM (Joystiq)
People, people, PEOPLE!

You are all drastically missing the point here.

The signs in Zelda games aren't for reading. They're for cutting into as many pieces as possible, and then reassembling them with a musical interlude.

Although I must say, it sure is a good thing that we no longer have to press a button to swing the sword or else Vlad's opinion of TP would only have yet another defining argument as to why Zelda falls flat.

DS schooling Japanese students

Oct 25th 2006 12:25AM (Joystiq)
Funny that. I actually imported rakubekijiten DS japanese-english/english-japanese dictionary to use during my Intro Japanese Course I took at college last year. From lik-sang too course, which saddens me as of the recent news. Its actually quite useful in practicing stroke order and even when you need a quick reference. I plan on eventually importing the kanji version once I get around too it. Hopefully from Play-asia, unless of course Sony manages to shut that down too...

I simply love the fact that the DS is region free. I import one game and play it on the lite, and then stick the dictionary in the phat when I need a look-up.

But yeah, "educational" tools sure are great!

The booth babe lineup, a TGS tradition

You know, sometimes Japan really confuses me.

God of War's titularly enhanced cut scenes were censored there...

And then there's these:

Sony: Nintendo is losing audience, not expanding it

Sep 22nd 2006 10:27PM (Joystiq)
No no no, fair Joystiq readers, you have it all wrong.

You see, using the super computer powers of the PS3, Sony has accessed the 4th dimension and has thusly traveled back in time to change the course of events in which the DS vastly out sold the PSP. These vague delusions of the DS's success are merely remnents of the memories that were McFlyed from your brains when Sony rewrote history. Sadly, as confused as you may be, dear friends, the PSP's phenomenal success is merely a result of Jack Tretton's tampering with our existing timeline. Although I am not at liberty to divulge my sources of said conspiracy, I assure you of its authenticity.

The fact that Sony was able to do this is astounding, as in time travel, safty is not guarrenteed. I hear they even brought their own weapons.

Incidentally this is also how the giant crabs got into historical Japanese battles.

NYT: Wii to launch Nov. 19 for $250 in US [update 6]

Sep 14th 2006 2:39AM (Joystiq)
I can't help but shake the fishy Sunday launch.

The DS was released in the US on Nov 21st while in Japan on Dec 2nd. Am I the only one seeing a pattern here?
