Apple issues official word on iPhone 4 reception: it's the bars, man

Jul 2nd 2010 10:37AM (TUAW.com)
I believe the popular term is "Placebo".

If you 'think' you have more bars. Then by golly, you "do" have more bars. Reality be damned.

Honestly, I'm curious to see how this plays out. I'm very sure this is blown out of proportion, as even without the bumper, the 4 is supposed to have better signal strength then the 3GS. This should weed out the people who are being dumb about it, and really bring out the people who have troubles.

Makes one wonder if it'll make those with real problems louder.

Judge unseals documents in Gizmodo case, finder offered extra $3500 and bonus for lost iPhone

Agreed. And actually, I don't read Gizmodo, but I resisted the urge to visit their site this whole affair. They don't deserve the additional hits for criminal acts.

Three apps for iPhone that look great on iPad

If there's one thing deliberately pixelated graphics look good on. It's deliberately scaled pixelated graphics.

Case Study: Standing at your Mac to save your back

May 9th 2010 8:18PM (TUAW.com)
TJ, this was the best original article I've read on TUAW in a long time. I've got ADD myself, and slouch in my chair. I think I've picked up a few great pointers. Thanks for the tips! I'm going to see about acting on them. The self-control app in particular. I've been off-and-on looking for something like that for a while.

A hands-on look at iStat Menus 3

Apr 27th 2010 5:23PM (TUAW.com)
Eh, the Freeware -> Shareware conversion I don't particularly care one way or the other. It's a decent utility.

... but can someone explain to me the reason for making iStat's preferences a standalone App? 'Cause quite frankly I don't see the point. That factor's a regression in my books.

The iBooks have returned from the dead! Run for the hills! They're after your braaaaaains!

It's coming... FarmVille heading to iPhone and iPad

Apr 21st 2010 5:33PM (TUAW.com)
So your argument is:
They're not necessarily bringing Farmville to iPhone OS;
There are domains that explicitly suggest iPhone OS ports;
They're very likely bringing Farmville to iPhone OS;

I get that you're trying to add skepticism to the argument (which is a nice change from all the doom and gloom), but I think there are better ways to word what you're trying to to say.

Sprint giving away iPad cases at select Best Buy stores

Apr 21st 2010 3:51PM (TUAW.com)
Observation: iPad + Sprint WiFi/4G accessory
Conclusion: Sprint's not getting the iPad on their network natively any time soon; Time to take matters into their own hands.

By extension, I'd presume this also means Sprint wants the iPhone on their network. They might've marketed Overdrive for the iPod Touch, were it not as big/larger then the Touch.

360iDev: Ansca Mobile's Corona SDK

Apr 14th 2010 11:18AM (TUAW.com)
I'm confused on this as well. The only way I can see working around that clause is if the program outputs an Xcode project, not directly outputting an iPhone app. This at least gives the dev the oppertunity to use iPhone specific features, something that can't be done in a cross platform compiler.

First the article on MacBook Pros and Optimus, now this? What's going on TUAW, you used to be better then this.

hacksugar: Hiding Apple's built-in applications

Apr 13th 2010 4:42PM (TUAW.com)
Considering it's a trick exploiting the parental controls, I'd assume not, the program would be dummied, as opposed to hidden.

But don't take my word for it as I have no idea what I'm talking about.
