TUAW Review: Plants vs. Zombies

Aug 8th 2009 4:14AM (TUAW.com)
Love the game, but the Mac client sucks bigtime. I'm particularly referring to the random f*#ing crashes that will sometimes occur in the middle of a perfectly orchestrated endless wave game.

Popcap isn't known for updating their clients so I guess we're stuck with what they give us. Play this on PC if you have a choice!

Works with my AT&T sim card, but no 3g (only EDGE). Still, its a pretty cool phone. Browser is way more stable than the POS iphone safari. Scroll wheel is extremely nice.

The Starbucks Via Taste Test -- Is it really better than your mother's instant coffee?

Mar 8th 2009 3:42AM (WalletPop)
Well, it's finally out. Drinking it now. Like starbucks coffee itself (for me), it grows on you. After a few cups, I've started to like it.

The only sure thing to say is that it's way better than other instant coffee. The price point is pure ridiculousness (3x too expensive), so I'm imagining its only a matter of time before other instant coffee products put in some R&D to match or exceed it in taste.

All in all a good thing. Instant coffee market needed a boost, and this is a pretty good product.

Getting the little things right in Mac OS X

When I'm in Finder and I search for something, why does it default to searching the entire friggin computer. I'd much rather search the directory I'm looking at right now.

Really lame bug. Needs to be fixed, or allow a hack to add the default search directory as the current context.

Third-party apps enhance web browsing for iPhone, iPod touch

Jan 15th 2009 10:56PM (TUAW.com)
Sigh. Wake me with Firefox or Opera releases a proper alternative to Safari on iPhone. What a pile of crap that browser is. It can't stay running for more than 10 minutes of browsing. Seen the same problems for both my 1st gen and 3g iPhone.

Seems crazy to me. Apple isn't charging for Safari. So why are they threatened by browser competition?

This Wednesday: Castle Crashers DLC hitting XBLA

Did they ever get around to fixing the broken online, and crash bugs that was causing profiles to be corrupted?

Got through half the game earlier this year, it crashed on me and I had to start from scratch. Needless to say, I haven't played it since.

1UP director Sam Kennedy: UGO not 'the bad guy'

Garnett is still on board? I hope he jumps ship as well. I liked him, but I don't think he's going to be able to put together any sort of decent podcasts without the core.

If John Davison is smart, he'll take a sabatical from WhatTheyPlay and start up a mini 1up, with the podcast and review crews from 1up. This business could easily could overtake 1up in less than a year, especially if they added some sort of subscription component for users to help support the site.

Put Leopard on a diet while waiting for Snow Leopard to be released

Just got that new Intel X25 SSD. Sped up my computer by an order of magnitude (10X!) so I'd definitely recommend it. Downside is its only 80 gigs.

So this tip is a huge help. Just installed and ran both monolingual and xslimmer and got an additional 5 gigs of space.
