I'm loving this Joker, it's a great middleman between the lanky, acid-bleached classic Joker and the ill-kept scruffiness of Ledger Joker. He might even be wearing makeup here, to me it looks like the red on his mouth extends past where his lips are, he could just be wearing red lipstick ala 'The Dark Knight Returns'.

Because phazon is poisonous to Samus unless she wearing the Phazon Suit, which she lost when it merged with the remains of Metroid Prime in 1. Thus, Dark Samus.
