Apple rolling out $1 TV shows for iPad launch?

Feb 11th 2010 7:24AM (TUAW.com)
What, TV shows? Off the top of my head, they're available in the UK and Australia, I'm pretty sure Germany, and most likely a fair few other countries as well.

Apple rolling out $1 TV shows for iPad launch?

Hmm, last time I checked, standard definition ≠ 4:3 aspect ratio. Arguably, being that if we want to watch full screen, we'll have to zoom and crop the video, HD would be the better option, as you'll still have a half-decent picture after all that zooming.

If Apple is going to start selling originally widescreen shows instead as fullscreen, then I will well and truly be pissed.

Video: Apple iPad playing iPhone games

Jan 28th 2010 9:41AM (Joystiq)
It's sad, but I can't wait to give Worms a try on the iPad (I've bought many games on my iPhone, but that's the one that I return to time after time. Well, that and Monopoly). Nice thing is that the graphics should upscale pretty nicely, and there are points during it (at least on my 2G iPhone) that it does beg for more processing power.

Personally, I can't wait for it. That said, I will be buying it primarily for business purposes, but the games will be a great side benefit. I do agree with the previous posts that as a game-centric machine, it's lacking. Though with the increased screen real-estate, I can't wait to see some RTS games (or something like Civilization) take full advantage of it.

How Will The Writer's Guild Feel In The Morning?

I'll refine Shawn's comment. While there are no doubt merits to independent films, to many of us, these films just come off as pretentious. Something like The Hangover, while sure, isn't going to make people step back and take a long hard look at their lives, achieves exactly what it set out to do. Comedies are made to make people laugh. It made people laugh, a lot.

iSlate specs "revealed." We also have a bridge to sell you.

@Craig: I wasn't talking about it being a ludicrous name for an animal, but (and I assumed this was pretty obvious) about a piece of software.

Hahahaha.

Damn, as far as fakes go, this one is pretty damn pathetic.

First off, going off Apple.com, it's kinda funny how Apple decided to change their grammatical style, with official documents using "fingerprint" rather than "finger-print"; "up to" instead of "upto"; Apple has done away with the "draft" in 802.11n.

Secondly, the specs are just laughable.
- Aluminium Unibody: Eh, maybe, but I'm thinking it'll be closer to the iPhone body.
- Screen: Odds are pretty damn strong that I'll be 10 inches.
- Processor: Core 2 Duo? Bulls**t. It'll be custom made by PA. While I'd love it to be, I doubt it'll be this powerful.
- Memory: Maybe, but I'd bet on 1GB.
- Storage. No chance in hell Apple would include such old technology. It'll be SSD for sure, likely 40GB (the price-point has reached an acceptable level).
- Optical media: Oh, so it's specifically an external iSlate SuperDrive?! Bulls**t. First off, if anything, it'd use the existing external SuperDrive, but moreover, there's no way Apple will include support. The whole point of the machine is to make people more mobile. It'd be like adding SuperDrive support to the iPhone.
- Projector: Hahahahahahahahahahahaha
- Ethernet: No. Chance. In. Hell.
- Connector: Magsafe? 30 Pin? That's definitely at least make some mention of it.
- OS: Clouded Leopard? No way. A ludicrous name, and no way Apple would be releasing a new version of Mac OS so soon (especially considering the lack of dev releases). Like the above posters, I'd bet on the OS being a merging of iPhone OS and Mac OS, with a focus on the former.

I'd say Apple is leaving the document up out of pity. I mean, it's just so amazingly laughable, that it'll kill any and all credibility that PhoneArena has ever had (not that that's saying much).

Awesome episode! My vote goes for Eric being the culprit, "I'll take care of Bill Compton..."

Apple rumored to be turning iTunes into a DRM-free music store UPDATE: Not anytime soon

@anythingbutapple: Oh, what a shame. The upkeep for your ivory pedestal must be more expensive than originally thought.

iPhone 2.2 firmware update available now, Google Street View and plenty more

Update of my update: Okay, I'm dumb. Considering you can drop a pin anywhere, and move in around with ease, that basically acts like your instant streetview.

Additional note: would be nice if you could do streetview on the fly, without having to put down a marker. I could have sworn one of the rumours was that if you put the iPhone in landscape it would switch to streetview. Guess not, but here's hoping they can make something like that happen.
