MadWorld places relationship between online hype and actual sales in doubt

Apr 29th 2009 5:58PM (Joystiq)
kenny that's kinda of a hard pill to swallow for a wii gamer like me craving more hardcore games. Need more ... MOOOORE!!. no but seriously, i don't play casual games (except wii sports OCCASIONALLY) I hate microsofts hardware, but i am a huge fan of the ps3. Haven't had the cash to pick one up yet though. Probably won't be getting one till xmas this year. But i seriously love the motion controls of the wii. The only way i might have a regret in the purchase is if the next generation sees a "wii HD": same as a wii but upgraded everything. It will make my normal wii feel so obsolete. Then again if it's double backwards compatible maybe i could just sell my normal one. Anyway, the point was i exsist

MadWorld places relationship between online hype and actual sales in doubt

I tend to disagree to a point. I don't think that's the only reason people bought their wiis. I for one have always wanted a system where actions were the commands, and i could aim at the t.v. with a gun while using an analog stick to move. I seriously wanted all this years before i had even heard about the wii (or the revolution when i first heard about it) What i see as the truth in the point your trying to make is that it's been years since it's release and only now is it getting attention from developers making more mature games for the console. By now the system has gotten the reputation for being the system you claim it is by starting out with (comparatively) no mature titles, and overloading on "causual" titles and in doing so given the "gaming community" the impression that they should just go play 360 and ps3. There have to be others like me however that have been waiting patiently for games like the ones that will be released this year. You see the only games i had bought until this year were zelda, RE 4, and metroid prime. This year i've bought madworld, conduit, and GH world tour already and i'll be buying punchout, RE 1, final fantasy 4 the after years, silent hill shattered dreams (if it comes out this year) and maybe cursed mountain and new play donkey kong and hotd overkill if it comes down in price. The wii will be earning earning 2 to 3 times the amount of money from me personally in this one year than it has in the past 3 years combined. But as i said before, by now i'm probably in the minority. I guess instead of writing this book i could just say it's too little too late to try to snag a mature or "gaming" audience, but it didn't have to be this way. Sad face.

Best of 2008: 10 best Wii games

Dec 30th 2008 1:32PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
i have to agree with the dissapointment around mariokart wii. But my dissapointment comes with one of the most basic changes they made... No grand prix multiplayer. Lately i feel like all of gaming is saying "play with your friends online, or don't play with them at all!".
As for the list itself, i don't think it's that strong, wiiware (for the most part) is alot of fun little games you play when you don't have time for hard disk games (once again, for the most part) which makes me feel like a list filled with have of them comprising a "best of" makes for fairly sparse hardware. There wasn't much in the way of impressive games this year. (didn't say none, just not many). As for the comment earlier about fun just being fun... You can find fun games on any system at any moment in time. There really not hard to come by. And by all means everyone should have their share of fun titles at their disposal. But, what really get's me into games is what doubles this entertainment industry as an art. Much in the same way film making is an art. Story, visual art, sound design, scoring. it's all there and controlling what happens sucks you into it that much more. It's what's driving me to try to break into this industry. And on that front, yes, the wii has come up wanting this year. The good news? Lot's to look forward to next year. It looks to be a year full of surprises, sastisfaction, and yes, probably dissappointment too. As long as there are at least many efforts, with some successes i can't complain.

Rygar's battles finally begin this February

Dec 10th 2008 6:22AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
i totally agree, and this really p!sses me off since i was going to go pick it up tomorrow! now i have to wait 3 months, and, considering there's nothing being added, it's for no reason! grrrr. what's funny now is there are so many games coming out in the 1st half of 2009 i'll probably be slowly buying games until next christmas. hm, i didn't think i wold ever get to say that about my wii. i guess that's the silver lining to this very dark grey cloud.

Capcom shoots down Bionic Commando, new Street Fighters on Wii

Nov 28th 2008 11:17AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
why bundle? am i the only one that remembers the classic controller exsists? If for some reason nintendo actually requires motion controls, then just tack them on. i don't see many ppl complaining as long as the classic is an option.

Man conducts symphony with Balance Board and Wiimote

Nov 21st 2008 3:40AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
for those of you that have never conducted an ensemble, when conducting a good enough piece you get a huge sensation of accompishment and power when people follow your cues correctly. Seeing how there wouldn't be a way for the machine to mess up, this seems like it could be alot of fun, since you wouldn't need to round up at least 30 people, and you could do it from the comfort of you own home. Bravo paul; bravo. This is what i hoped wii music would be the very first time i saw a clip for it.

Wii Warm Up: Joy be thine

Nov 20th 2008 8:27AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'm hoping to get either rygar, deadly creatures, or tales of symphonia, or even zelda since i haven't picked it up yet. I'm gifting some of my friends some wii-ware games, but i won't say what since one of them might actually read this.

Wii Warm Up: Top title for 2009?

Nov 20th 2008 8:22AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
oh, and while we're being hypothetical, sadness looks like it could be AMAZING. But hypothetically meaning, it would get made and not get f*#ked up.

Wii Warm Up: Top title for 2009?

Nov 20th 2008 8:18AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Of these titles i'm probably looking forward to the conduit the most. It's and fps, which i enjoy from time to time, but more importantly it looks like it tells a dramatic story. That's how the wii has dissappointed me. No games with really involving stories. I think the new tales of symphonia will fix that, but i won't be picking that up for about a month. (People get pissed when you buy the presents they got you). Hopefully we're not getting the best games in 2009 right up front. Hopefully there will be more conduits, and madworlds, and hell one of the games i'm excited for the most is the updated rygar. I never played the old game, but with the new enemies i'm glad i didn't. This game looks like it is going to be awesome. I hope for more serious titles in 2009. And i definately mean more than 4 or 5. By the by, i'm not looking forward to fatal frame 4 or any of the japanese rpg's because i no longer presume any nintendo of japan title will get localized... ever. That way i'm not incredibly dissapointed when it just doesn't happen. Buuuuuut, hypothetically if localization was a certainty i would go nuts over fatal frame, and probably fragile too. Fragile looks so very very interesting.

Nintendo confident core will be satisfied in 2009

Nov 18th 2008 7:38PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'm very excited about the conduit and mad world; hats off to sega for that. But i hope more quality stuff comes out before june. I have rygar (which really i'm also really excited for) Dead rising in jan. nothing really in feb. mad world in march. I don't think anything in april. The conduit in may. And then we're to june. I'm definately not holding my breath that fragile will make it to the states, and i'm still not convinced sadness will come out this year. Fatal frame probably won't get localized either. Deadly creatures looks like it might be a sleeper. A few people will play it and realize that there's a creepy story that was hiding from everyone starring dennis hopper and billy bob thorton. So i guess there is a chance i'm set for a while. If i can just get in one more game with blood that isn't an on rails shooter or star women wearing bikini cowboy suits i'll be totally satisfied until november or october of next year.
