Review: Dungeons

Feb 11th 2011 6:40PM (Big Download)
Jason phrased it up perfectly. Most of the complaints I've seen (far from all tho, obviously) tell me that they thought it was going to be just like or very similar to Dungeon Keeper. Now... I discovered this game just a few weeks ago, so I don't know how much the marketing is to blame and how much the players who allowed themselves to be nostalic are to blame. But the point is... from what I saw (again, all of it recently) in terms of hype... this was never supposed to be like Dungeon Keeper.

In fact, many of the complaints in this review tell me that the reviewer is interpretting the game wrong. For example: "They simply sit around their pentagrams until a hero wanders in close enough for a fight."

Exactly. You don't control the masses. Think of this as an evil dungeon management sim. Again, the "Diablo in reverse" is a superb analogy. Most videogame dungeoncrawler RPGs don't even bother crafting a story for why the monsters are there in the first place. They simply *ARE*. That's what's going on here.

Btw... what tutorial? lol... I blame the horrific near-absence of help on the fact that this was a (fairly) small European development team. Not to sound like a typical bigoted American, of course (I am, btw, American), but so many "here, figure it out yourself" games that I play (and love) are made by European companies.

I'd like to see you review this as if it's a *MANAGEMENT SIM*... because it is.

Sony welcomes Xbox 360 to 'Elite' HD experience

Mar 28th 2007 2:38AM (Joystiq)
Rasta, stfu.
Everyone else, the point here being that Microsoft is giving you a CHOICE. If I want HD-DVD, I can choose that. Sony forces the "elite" experience. It's as simple as that. And yes... Sony's PR is nearly synonymous with arrogance, kinda reminds me of Dubya's PR department. That's another discussion tho. Microsoft's recent antics were quite juvenile, but quite funny.

See... we laugh *AT* Sony, and *WITH* Microsoft. Not that hard to comprehend.

And btw, the price is fixed, and it's not a limited time deal people, get over it.

Sony clarifies Americans aren't 'cheap,' but U.S. labor is

I'm glad at least *ONE* person here has the IQ and education to realize that "minimum wage" is *NOT* supposed to be enough to live off of. I'm sick of hearing about how it's not enough. As for Sony, who dropped them on their heads when they were babies?

Microsoft uses beer to illustrate Xbox 360 cost advantage

@"Xbots suck"

Great to see blind fanboi-ism still alive (like it wouldn't be...).

There's so much to counter, but I'll just point out that most PS3 games started development at the same time that the first 360 games started. If Sony had the competence to distribute more dev-kits, they'd have a killer-app sooner. As far as comparing games, you do know that R:FoM is so far the only non-360-port that is a kickass game on the PS3 right? I know there's plenty of great non-exclusives coming (MGS, FF, etcetera) so we'll see.

#26... what the HECK are you talking about? Class? Did you see Sony's advertising campaign, telling people to "take the leap" to get a Sony product... at a popular suicide place. Please......

And in re: to:
**
13. is that a core or premium 360? and does it have built in wifi, free online and Bluray player?
If they try to be funny at least do it right.

No, it doesn't come with free online, it comes with $3/month online that doesn't crash with each new demo. Online that you can download multiple items at the same time that you're playing a game. Online that is on *ONE SYSTEM* instead of allowing all game developers to have their own online system (and eventually charge for it). Thanks, I'll keep the better value. As for Core/Premium... do you see a hdd? Do you know what a hdd looks like? You'll figure it out. And I'd rather have the *OPTION* to buy an HD-DVD than being forced to buy a Blu-Ray.

And for some other guy up there, they're not COMPARING it to beer, they're showing you what you can get for the price difference.

Toshiba not so impressed by Blu-ray's victory cries

Mar 19th 2007 8:27PM (Engadget)
If Sony is claiming victory this early in the format war, they should admit defeat in the console war. They can't have it both ways and say that it's too soon to determine the console war and well past the time when we're able to determine the format victor. Then again, this is Sony.

Btw... add this as a pro-HD-DVD post on that survey earlier. True... a lot of it is anti-Sony sentiment from me (Refugee, rootkit, PS3's PR department, low-value consumer electronics, offensive advertising, etcetera).

Plus, more of the stuff I prefer is dedicated to HD than Blu-Ray (i.e. movie studio commitment).

Black Xbox 360 Premium rumor for $299 will not die

Mar 13th 2007 8:07PM (Joystiq)
"Now if they can find a way to fit the huge power brick INSIDE the 360 like the PS3, I'm on that stink on a diaper!"

What's the deal? Do you want to carry around your 360 with you? Who in their right mind would PREFER to have the blazing hot power-brick inside the console? In my mind, having the brick on the outside is a logical design choice. Mine sits on the floor behind the entertainment center, slightly propped up against the wall.

GDC: More Fable 2 feature goodness

Mar 12th 2007 2:40PM (Joystiq Xbox)
After TheMovies, Black&White 1&2, and the first Fable, I think this is his last chance not to overhype.
A lot of us are starting to wonder who the real genius behind Dungeon Keeper, Theme Hospital, and Populous was...
Maybe the gaming media needs to be prepared to start using "Molyneaux" as a verb meaning over-hyped.
For example "We hope Halo 3 will be incredible and that Microsoft doesn't just Molyneaux it."
