World Tour 'Hard Rock' and 'Reggae Rock' track packs now live

Dec 26th 2008 3:12PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
They onyl show up in quickplay, far as I can tell. That red door that's to the left of the last gig in career mode, the one you can't select but it looks like you should be able to? On the other platforms that's the create a gig spot, where you can select the songs you want for a career gig. DLC would be included there, but for some reason this feature was left out of the Wii version.

Thought you might want to note that Harmonix announced they won't have the music store for the Wii RB2 (which is otherwise excellent, better than GHWT) up until 2009. They haven't said when but they said it's in the "final testing stages" and they hoping for "as early as possible in 2009". Announcement is at the RB forums.

Wii Warm Up: Guitar Hero Redundant Edition

Dec 20th 2008 10:45AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
For a lot of bands, yeah, it is redundant and they'd be better served pushing it as DLC. But for Metallica, this actually does make sense. Their songs and the accompanying metal bands are going to be really difficult and might turn off a lot of the casual players who pick up the main game in the series. However, metalheads and the super-elite Scorehero crowd were really pissed off that GHWT had less of the really difficult metal tracks than RB2. Putting those songs in GH:M along with the additional features, like the Expert+ drum difficulty that charts for double kick pedals, is a way to satisfy them without alienating the rest of their customers.

Rock Band 2 works with other instruments, could miss Christmas

Dec 16th 2008 1:50PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I was told at Gamestop today they expect to have it on shelf Friday, so that 5-7 days may be a very cautious overestimate in some cases at least. Bundles were already all reserved but game only was still available for preorder, so jump on it if you want it before xmas.

Rock Band 2 confirmed for December 18 [update 1]

Dec 12th 2008 5:42PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
The IGN report was worded like they were hands-on playing the final build of the game using GHWT instruments, so I can't imagine that's changed. It wasn't some report of a comment from Harmonix that could have been misinterpreted or anything. Not sure why they pulled it, but I'm still pretty confident they all work.

Rock Band 2 welcomes Guitar Hero instruments [update]

If you're missing the yellow cymbal, you can always unscrew the orange cymbal and unplug it from the base (little headphone-style jack on the underside of the cymbal) and move it to the other side of the kit and plug it in there. The game will recognize it as the yellow cymbal.

Nope, RB1 drums definitely don't work on Wii GHWT, and since they're not changing the RB2 drums to incorporate a Wiimote like the GH instruments use, there's no reason to believe they'd work in GHWT either.

Looks like if you want to play both games on the Wii, you have to start with the GHWT instruments. Which means this is actually a huge concession, from a business perspective, for Harmonix to basically admit they lost the race to establish supremacy on the Wii. If they thought they had a serious shot at competing with GHWT for Wii bundle buyers, they wouldn't allow compatibility while Activision still doesn't.

Nintendo planning greater community features

Demos would be nice. While we're at it, fix the "architecture" problem so we don't get screwed on the GHWT/RB DLC bundle issue. I WANT HENDRIX!

Orbient was great; haven't tried the others cause I had my fill of puzzlers for a while after that and World of Goo but would like to see more.
