Rovio's Vesterbacka defends mobile games, calls out Nintendo's '$49 pieces of plastic'

Mar 30th 2011 2:33PM (Joystiq)
@ObiAlKenobi

I agree with your points.

I want to add that the video game industry really is on the edge of falling into the same pit that the music and movie industries have fallen into. That is a disruptive business model. And companies like Rovio and Zynga are as close to a real disruptive business model as one has gotten in the VG industry. Nintendo, Sony, and MS really need to realize is that all it will take is a company like Rovio creating a AAA title that rivals a disc-based game and sells it for way less than $60 for a console. I think that if a company can pull this off, they'll make a mountain of $$ and kill the console industry.

All 1,031 of Gran Turismo 5's cars catalogued

@GiovaneO

As a proud S2000 owner, there are actually significant differences among the included models. Although the argument could be made to say it is excessive--but for me, it isn't.

And as far as the interiors go, I personally don't care for the interior view of the car. I know it is important for lots of folks, but I feel it just gets in the way of visibility when I'm playing.

@Complex

Technically, RUF just buys the unmarked bodies and chassis from Porsche but everything else supposedly is RUF made/built. I think this is what you were saying, but just wanted to clarify for others since your post kind of made it sound like RUFs are knock-off Porsches and thats how Sony got around the licensing.

Kinect standalone power supply now available from Microsoft

Nov 9th 2010 9:09AM (Joystiq)
@SirUrza

To be fair, the PS3 controller does use a standard mini-USB cable--the plug with the PS3 controller is not proprietary as the kinect powersupply is. Most people have lots of mini-USB cables laying around their house. But you are correct, Sony could not be a cheap jerk and include a cable with the controllers.

But, the kinect thing is a moot issue as it really only affects people who decide to take the kinect to their friend's house and plug into their non-slim 360.

Screw that--I'd rather either Verizon/Google/Moto push the froyo update. I'm getting tired of my audio screwing up when I'm listening to pandora.

I'm starting to wonder if Kirf-ness is part of the Chinese corporate culture? In all seriousness, what other countries are known for making Kirfs?
