You forgot to add on the cost of
Non-Standard harddrive
Wireless adapter
Annual subscription to play online
And if you require it
BluRay Player, which are more expensive than the PS3, despite the PS3 being the best player on the market

Sep 29th 2008 4:56PM (Joystiq Playstation)PlayTV ships 85,000 units in the UK
Sep 28th 2008 12:02PM (Joystiq Playstation)Re: Alun R
It's the recording features of PlayTV which make it attractive, not the ability to receive digital signals, as your right, most TV's will have that feature built in and you'd be mad to buy one without.
PlayTV competes with some features of Windows Media Centre, which the 360 can make use of (The PS3 also can but they don't make it easy to set up)
Now if you add remote play into the mix via the PSP, thats when you have a compelling technology.
Whether it will work or not is, is another question, alot of good technologies fail, and whilst 9,000 is a good start I don't think it's that a high a percentage Vs total PS3 sales (a million ?)
Most homes in the UK have either Sky, or it's competitor Virgin, and therefore don't rely on 'Freeview' to get digital TV.
It may build on the promising UK start throughout Europe, but Sony don't advertise things very well.
If they advertise the remote play features better I'm sure they'd sell a lot more

I'm sick to death Sony's hype machine
2008 is the year of the ps3, now we're told it's 2009, and all the time microsoft is cutting the price of its console, and shifting boxes
LBP is the way forward, but the 360 has great exclusives too
multiplatform games still look better on the 360, and we're told that the ps3 would become the lead platform, also there's nothing on the ps3 that wouldn't be possible on the so called inferior 360 apart from bluray full of textures because the slow read speeds mean you draw data off it on the fly like you can DVD's on the 360

Sep 26th 2008 5:07AM (Joystiq Playstation)Our extra horsepower this and that
Bullsh1t if no one can design for it!!!
I'm interested in the here and now, I've still not seen anygames which wouldn't be possible on the 360, other than the BluRay disk filing up with uncompressed sound, and duplicated textures due to the weird ps3 architecture needing them, and the massive amount of tutorials on lbp
Promises, promises promises, it's a great machine, but com 'on
