Saw it for the third time tonight, there is no question - Dent and Two-Face are dead.

He says to Gordon, 'You think I want to escape?' when he mentions the police perimeter, knowing this is the end of the line for him. He's not breathing on the ground in the scenes. They hold a public memorial service for Harvey. I love Aaron in this movie, he's a great actor overall, and it's sad Ledger can't come back, but they can't just suddenly make the final 20 minutes a dream sequence and have it never happen.

Dent's full story was told, albeit quickly. I like to believe that Nolan respects his audience enough to keep him buried, and to think we all understand that his story is over.
