Battlefield 1943 players upset over lack of Irish identification [Update]

They're not individual countries! They're UK regions! They are all still under British rule.

Battlefield 1943 players upset over lack of Irish identification [Update]

Jul 29th 2009 9:33AM (Joystiq)
I've come across this numerous times in numerous games. In many games, including Colin McRae Rally: DIRT, on selecting Northern Ireland as a nationality, the associated flag is the 'Red Hand of Ulster', which is NOT the official flag of Northern Ireland and is a flag that is always flown by Northern Irish Protestants and Unionists. The flag is not accepted by the Nationalist/Catholic community in Northern Ireland.

Games should allow a player from Northern Ireland to choose either a Union Jack or Irish Tricolour or more simply the choice between Irish nationality and British nationality.

Mysterious 'Season Pass' surfaces in 1 vs. 100

I would say Great Britain, but then it would probably more likely to say 'UK' for United Kingdom since it would no doubt include Northern Ireland (part of Britain) too. It would also include the Republic of Ireland too - they normally pair these countries together - for example the Sky television service on Xbox 360 is being launched in the UK and Ireland simultaneously. The markets are very similar technologically and in language and culture.

Arrested Army game protester writes up her experience

May 9th 2009 4:24PM (Joystiq)
Those that organised this protest should be proud of themselves. It's different when an independent country decides to develop and publish a first person shooter or war game, but this is a game paid for by US taxpayers as propaganda to help recruit young people into the army - in other words, sacrificing young people by making them fight illegal wars abroad - like sheep to slaughter.

Whether the Call of Duty series promotes war depends on what way the user interprets it, really. Personally, all the death and destruction of Call of Duty 2 and 3 is enough to reinforce my anti-war views. But I do think they lost it with Call of Duty 4 - the writers of the game have clearly been warped by US propaganda. The game demonises Arabs and Russians and makes them out to be something they're not.

These people are nutjobs! What about the abuse of humans?

Jesus this is ridiculous.

Europe accounts for less than a quarter of Live, language barriers to blame

Jul 31st 2008 3:48PM (Joystiq Xbox)
It is a problem. Sometimes you'll end up alongside groups of Spanish, German, French or whatever. It's not a lot of fun listening to all the garble of a foreign language. But Europeans generally know enough words of each other's languages to have short conversations with one another.
For example, I've studied French for six years and German for five years, and I know some words and phrases in Romanian, Irish and Spanish.
Plus most Europeans are fluent or semi-fluent in English.

COD4 wasn't even good! Online was great, but the singleplayer was awful...

This story is ridiculous and the comments are even more ridiculous...

Wishing death upon someone? Maybe the video games are affecting us after all...

What on Earth has this got to do with games? Are there no other news to post?
