Sony: PS3 disc drive errors not a firmware issue

Oct 1st 2009 8:26PM (Joystiq)
I've got the original 60 gig model, not had a problem with it until recently. I've always kept my PS3 sitting upright next to the television. I recently decided to put it on a shelf on the TV stand. While my TV stand is open air - Just glass shelfs no sides or back it was just enough extra heat trapped that after extended movie watching that blu-rays would not read, or it would skip or it would stop altogether. I moved back to its original position and not had a problem since - no permanent damage I guess.
Some tips, albeit obvious tips. Make sure not to put it under a shelf, an enclosed space, blow the vents out with compressd air. Its unbelievable how much dust gets traped in it. Especially do not put it on top of anything that generates heat - IE a receiver. It seems heat is the biggest problem with this generation of consoles.

Report: PS3 to support 3D stereoscopic gaming in 2009

Dec 19th 2008 2:38AM (Joystiq Playstation)
I remember that, me and my brother had the 3d glasses for out master system. Space Harrier 3d was the game. It was a really cool effect, the shutter glasses did a really good job, hardly any eye strain. Definent step-up to the crappy red and blue glasses that would come with some of the nintendo games.

Sony "looking into" PSP-3000 screen interlacing problems

Oct 21st 2008 1:57PM (Engadget)
I think the interlacing was always there. It just looks like to me that the screen is a lot finer so you notice it more. Kinda like when people were complaining about how much worse digital tv looked on there new HDTV.

Sony reluctantly pledges to enter netbook market, pouts

Sep 16th 2008 11:36PM (Engadget)
Taking jabs at Sony again Engadget, nice of you to keep the Sony bashing going. I've had Vaio's for years, batteries not to good but otherwise no trouble at all. I've still got my 10 yr old 505 and besides a battery replacement it still works great. My friends have had Dells and HPs and had nothing but trouble. Never buy a cheap HP laptop they are the worst.
As far as netbooks are concerned I think Sony should stay away just because of there tendency to have a higher price. Unless they are willing to go the extra mile with the features, they will no doubt price themselves out of the market.

Tabulator: Comparing the PlayStation 3 SKUs

Aug 27th 2008 8:08AM (Joystiq)
I noticed that to. My 60gb unit has a shiny chrome trim, while the new 80gb units have a painted silver/greyish trim. Not shiny and not as nice looking. Hopefully the 160 gb units will have the chrome trim.
