Shanzai shocker! VIA processors in $100 Android tablets later this year

@joe23521

This is the killer app for the knockoffs: a OneNote ripoff. Can't someone segment glyphs on a lined screen other than Microsoft?

Nintendo's Miyamoto casually references new hardware, MotionPlus games

@Vanillacide
I think that if they come out with a new Wii in the near tern, it will still have a fixed function pipeline, but just powerful enough to do HD rastering with current games. They might also increase the internal flash, but I think that would be it.

Look at the DS vs. the DSi. That's the kind of incremental improvement we should expect from the Wii.

Alienware's M11x netbook gets a base price: $799

Jan 28th 2010 6:29PM (Engadget)
@kenny goo

"Netbook = small size, low weight, low price, low spec, integrated graphics. "

I would say that Netbook = small size, low price, long battery life.

Low spec and integrated graphics is usually a consequence of "low price", but I don't think they are a must for netbooks.

LPD display tech from Prysm uses lasers, phosphors, groovy Flash intros

@Wwhat

My guess is the advantage is that you don't have to magnetically steer the electron beam to make for a much flatter display.

Syndiant and Foryou break the low-res mold with 1,024 x 600 pico projector

@Whiternoise

I mean that as the process is more refined, the companies incur less cost to build, so keeping prices static don't help the consumer, they just add to profits.

Syndiant and Foryou break the low-res mold with 1,024 x 600 pico projector

Jan 8th 2010 8:21PM (Engadget)
Nice, but I hope this doesn't just mean that we get $700 dim pico projectors with a lower resolution than a bright $700 standard projector.

It seems like with all the manufacturing innovation, projectors still have the same price as a decade ago.

Epic shows off Unreal Engine 3 running on iPhone / iPod touch

Dec 22nd 2009 2:44PM (Engadget)
@Rick James

"Unreal Engine 3 is designed for a high level shader architecture and the Wii doesn't have that. I mean, you know, it's just not what we've been aiming for, so it's not something we're looking to do or support."

-- Epic's vice president, Mark Rein

And this just proves he really was saying "We just hate the Wii and won't port our engine so here's some BS argument."

LED traffic lights don't melt snow, do cause accidents

Dec 17th 2009 2:55PM (Engadget)
@dfreeindy

Yes, because the traffic light bulbs have reflectors to spread out the light from the incandescent bulb....

Wait, why are there shields again?

Comcast takes control of NBC, promises not to crush Hulu

Dec 3rd 2009 5:38PM (Engadget)
@dirtballrotten

I dumped comcast when I found out that U-verse was faster and cheaper. Satellite has more HD than comcast, and they were forced to advertise more "HD choices" as an underhanded way of trying to look better than satellite. Comcast is overpriced and has less content compared to the competition and I only had it because my last place couldn't get DSL, so I ended up paying double for high-speed internet thanks to their dumpy overpriced selection in a monopoly market.

Good riddance.
