Student's Windows-based media center brings our own slacker childhoods into perspective

Apr 27th 2010 3:09AM (Engadget)
@mukatuna It wasn't built solely as a media center pc, it was built as a powerful computer that ran media center. I used it to record TV shows and stream them to my Xbox 360, so the computer itself didn't need to be silent. I've since upgraded that computer to a Core i7 920 system that's overclocked to 3.8 GHz, thanks to the water cooling. I could probably have pushed it beyond 4GHz but I've got an electricity allowance in my dorm and I didn't want to go over again.

@O The point here isn't so much that he did it, it's great that he did. But to be featured on Engadget because of it? There has to be something unique about this person that makes him worthy of being written about, otherwise why not feature every kid that builds a computer in high school?

How is this news-worthy? I built a water-cooled, overclocked Media Center computer running XP Media Center for my high school senior project and I don't think anyone would have thought it news-worthy. Is there something special he did that I'm missing?

Microsoft Tag makes a video appearance, still seeking popularity

Why is this news now? These things are already out in the wild and have been for at least a couple months. I've already seen them in a brochure for the 2010 Taurus and a pack of Stride gum. What's suddenly so different that this is worth blogging about?

Nook begins shipping, in select Barnes & Noble stores on December 7th

Dec 1st 2009 1:39PM (Engadget)
@nikescar I certainly hope mine ships Tuesday, I ordered the day it was announced so I should have priority over people who ordered closer to Nov. 20. I also got the email saying I should get it before Dec. 9 and that they upgraded me to overnight shipping, and are giving me a $10 gift certificate. If they do indeed ship it Tuesday I should still get it by Wednesday,
