Asus lets loose US pricing, launch details for Eee PC

Oct 30th 2007 12:33AM (Engadget)

Even if you potentially purchased the basic $300 model, you would still spend nearly $500 (for extra RAM, extra storage, Windows OS, etc..) just to make it worthwhile for most. So since this is still just a underpowered notebook, why not purchase a essentially better performing laptop at nearly the same price range.

Now if this was a UMPC (similar to the Fujitsu U810), then we would something to talk about. Asus should go ahead, in cram this into a 5.6" inched screen handtop (unlike the oversized R2H). With about 256MB-512MB RAM, 2GB-4GB SDD-Storage, include the same Linux-based OS + Intel CPU/GPU and you'll one killer pocket device (or future MID).

Sadly, the entry level price for a current UX model is still a bit to steep IMO. If this device could be released around a similar price range like the Q1 Ultra (which is priced as low as $800), than this will become one of the best compact sized UMPCs.

Looks awesome, seems like the Averatec-AHI in disguise though. Hopefully the price is affordable,so I can purchase this as soon as it is released.

Portable Gamecube rumor returns briefly

Aug 7th 2006 10:00PM (Joystiq)

I find it kinda humorous that some individuals probably will overhype a *Portable Gamecube/GameBoy Evolution*, but downplay something very similar (such as the PSP). Anyway its pretty obvious whatever upcoming Handheld Nintendo is working on, it will probably take the power route (with a bit less on innovation).

Should we consider the PSP dead?

Jul 19th 2006 7:12AM (Joystiq)
Its kinda foolish to state RIP-PSP, when its one of the highest selling devices out their, and continues to present solid support (from consumers & developers).

Not every PSP game has a GTA development cost. The folks who complain about *LOAD-TIMES*, need to take a sniff of Daxter, Tokobot,Brave Story, Tekken, etc. If your saying PSP has *No Good Games* (Syphon Filter, MPU, MHX, GGJ, HSG, Field Commander, Exit, VPL, etc..), than your probably drowning in ignorance.

I do agree UMD-Movies are dead, but I don't think you can fit the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops on a Flash Card to well. I don't see how folks can still complain about the price ($200 isn't that bad), when folks are still buying I-Pods in herds. Finally comparing the PSP to something like the Virtual Boy is nearly idiotic, and telling millions of current PSP owners to..

"Trade in the PSP while you can still get a decent deal!"

Kills all the respect that was left, which wasn't much. I'm not really suprise folks are beliving this garbage, flies like BS. Also maybe I shouldn't be so hard on this GWN, I mean who has heard of them before anyway.

Averatec's AHI UMPC takes shape

Jul 10th 2006 7:26PM (Engadget)

Awesome Felix, I freaking can't wait to hear some more solid news on this beast of a handheld.

Hands on with Sony's would-be UMPC killer, the UX180P

Jul 7th 2006 8:44PM (Engadget)

Slick as this handheld beast looks (should of been clamshell though), the price kills the deal(same goes with the OQO). Soon as this hotness hit $800-$700 price tag, I'm all on them. If more UMPCs follow this design, and released at a more affordable price.. they can easily become the next must-have tech device (dare I say replacing teh Notebook/Laptop surge).

Eh, I guess I'll just to the *Averatec AHI* is released. Does anyone have any new info on it..
