Joystiq hands-on: Killzone 2 single-player campaign

Dec 4th 2008 5:57PM (Joystiq)

And even if it does look better than Gears 2, it can't be taken as definitive proof that the PS3 can do better graphics. As Gears 2 runs on the UE3 which was designed for PCs and ported to consoles, while Killzone 2 runs on a built for PS3, ground up engine, that Guerilla have been working on for the past 4 years.

While it's only been two years since the last Gears and there was UT3 in between.

Also Killzone 2 is the largest media project in Dutch history, so Sony has been chucking a lot of cash at them. There really isn't a comparable 360 game, COD4 seems to be the closest.

Does it have better graphics than Gears 2?
Given it's similarity to COD4, will it have respawning enemies?

Hey guess what I got the NXE early, and im not in the beta. And it has avatar creation and everything, and you can play online. I just connected to Live today and it asked me to update.

However I do live in Australia, so maybe its a early release down here.

Holding out on getting MGS4? Then play the demo

on the aus store you say, then I can download it, if only to see if the graphics are as good as everyone says they are.

The problem with having 3 hours worth of cutscenes in a game, is that the story has to be good, really good.
MGS4 is a bit too convulted and silly (eg amptutated arms taking over people etc. and whats with the monkeys) to be taken seriously.
I'm sure the japanese love the story though.

But hey if the demo has food gameplay I might get it.

SCEE sees third parties leading development on PS3

Sony is just spouting more BS, remember all that full HD 1080p nonsense, it turned out more 360 games run at higher resolution than their PS3 counterparts.

While the PS3 may have a processing advantage, with the CELL (and support better AI), the guys comment that the PS3 is "the most powerful, both in terms of AI and graphics" is quite wrong, as the Xenos is far superior to the RSX, and the PS3 has less available RAM than the 360 (due to the larger footprint of the PS3 OS).
Also the 256:256 RAM split between GPU and CPU is not going to give it a graphics advantage. The CELL may lead to better AI/physics but not graphics.

Red Alert 3 back on PS3, with 1080p and other 'really cool' PS3 features

Nov 4th 2008 6:40PM (Joystiq Playstation)
what are they talking about 1080p?

Blu ray isn't going to increase resolution anyway, and most 360 games run in higher resolution than their ps3 counterparts (eg GTA4).

If the PC version fits on a DVD, there is no reason why the PS3 version needs Blu Ray, (apart from having 1080p FMV's perhaps)

It's only a RTS, it's not going to have thousands of hi res textures or anything, that needs 50 GB of space.

PSM3 explains 'Fallout 3 looks poor on PS3' comment

Oct 24th 2008 8:11PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Its funny how all the PS3fanboys get stirred up about multiplatform titles looking better on the 360. Obviously all these developers are lazy they say, cause the PS3 is a bazillion times more powerful than the 360!!! etc etc

Too bad they don't know that the 360 has a better GPU, and better system memory, which mainly determine graphics, while the PS3 has a faster processor, it isn't going to give it a graphics advantage, maybe a physics advantage but not a graphics advantage over the 360.

Let us not forget that GTA4 which was a PS3 exclusive originally, ended up looking significantly better on the 360.

John Schappert: 360 can run MGS4

True, especially seeing as the story was a bit overblown and contorted anyway. If the story wasn't so japanese - then maybe.

John Schappert: 360 can run MGS4

I agree with the observation, that the 360 is the new PS2. I have both systems, and while I like the PS3, I find that its more fun to play on the 360, ie better/more games, better graphics, better controller.
So this sees my PS3 relegated to a media/dvd player role, and I also take advantage of its built in wi fi to download demos, so I have like a 20 demo collection on the PS3, which is great for sampling all the new games that come out.

But the 360 is excellent value for the money, paying half price for equivalent capabilities is fantastic. Makes Nintendo seem like they're getting away with daylight robbery with the Wii, charging so much for such old and underpowered hardware.

John Schappert: 360 can run MGS4

Well, it can definitely be done as a multi-disc game. The only real problem with porting MGS4, is the two hours of cutscenes, which take up a hell of a lot of space (HD video).
Here is the PS3's advantage, it eliminates the need for multi-discs and disc swapping.

So it's primarily an issue with the space on DVDs (which isn't a problem for most games) not the capabilities of the 360.

The 360 has the better memory/ GPU anyway, so matching the graphics shouldn't be a problem.
