A better way to find out what the customer thinks

Mar 6th 2008 11:29AM (WalletPop)
This is a great idea, I can see applications in the restaurant biz as well. Place a text shortcode on the receipt rather than the sweepstakes 1-800 number. I'd much rather text a 160 character response than spend 3-5 minutes on the phone, and they can follow up with a text coupon for my next visit, Ha, now I'm wishing.

Why do textbooks cost so much? Could it be...a conspiracy?

I'll be teaching my first class as an adjunct prof at a local private uni this fall and I am trying to weigh the benefit of the new edition of the book which is coming out vs. last years.

As a former student of the institution it will be interesting to see how it plays out if I choose the older version.

Since it is a technology in business course I am tempted to go new, but I need to plod through the two versions to see if there are substantial additions.

My advice for students is to wait and see if the book will be used, so many times the book is just given a cursory glance due to handouts etc. It almost seems as if there is a stigma against teaching a class sans book. The wealth of online resources make me wonder if I could try to teach using assigned web readings only.

Death, taxes, and...jail time?

The IRS requires you to declare taxes on stolen property in the year you steal it, unless you also return it in that year!

What would you do with an extra $100,000?

Feb 19th 2008 4:09PM (WalletPop)
If I received 100,000

1. Goodbye Student Loans
2. House downpayment
3. Savings
4. Splurge on a Bigger TV for said house.

This is my 2 minute list. I am sure it would need flushed out if I were to receive said windfall. If the government wants to up my economic stimulus package to $100,000 I can start doing my part for the good ol' economy.

My six tips for a speedy recovery after surgery

Feb 5th 2008 4:22PM (WalletPop)
Showering is an excellent idea, it fights the feeling of sitting all day.

My other recommendation is to start doing little things you normally do to get your body back into your daily routine. When I was recuperating from knee surgery, even adding back in morning coffee, some VPN work from home and blogging helped me feel better!

Show me your love: Get me nothing for Valentine's Day

One of the best presents I know is a baked good! I'll be spending some time in the kitchen to whip up my wife's favorite chocolate cake. It is cheaper than purchasing one at the store, tastes better, and is made by me.

Going broke on presents is a horrible idea, harder to implement than some other budget cutting methods for me. It helps to think if you really want to be paying off that diamond ring for 20 years, 3 credit card balance transfers and a home equity payoff?

Tom

Freaking awesome post! This sounds like an amazing place, I'll have to see if one is in my neck of the woods(northern Ohio).

Sharon, Awesome news! You're quite the inspiration.
