Guitar Hero project director discusses aiming for the 'core' audience

Aug 13th 2010 11:50PM (Joystiq)
They're doing a damn fine job of enticing me. A full Soundgarden album AND 2112, I'm sold. If they have some more Dream Theater and Joe Satriani, I'll be playing this one for a long time.

Get new Soundgarden album early with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock [update]

To be totally honest this is shaping up to be one of the better setlists they've had in awhile. Certainly more interesting to me than Beatles or Green Day. Seriously, why can I have Prog Hero?

Green Day: Rock Band more familiar to 'core audience' than The Beatles, MTV Games says

Are you kidding me? How can you consider it boring? It's prog, the music is ridiculously complex. I'll bet you're one of those people who hate instrumentals.

@831 Son: I'm sure you're trolling, but if you're not then please go away. Petrucci is GOD.

Maybe most, but there is a large group of people who don't like playing "chord, chord, different chord, chord" and until Harmonix or whoever realises that, the franchise just won't sell as well as it used to.

I'm of the opinion that the reason Beatles didn't sell all that great is that Harmonix totally ignored their core audience. Not because people don't like the Beatles, but because it's really boring and not at all challenging to play. I realise Rock Band Dream Theater is probably asking too much, but come on, give me something fun to play.

I'm not saying they're unimportant. They are, for sure. And I'm not saying they weren't good, because they were. I'm saying, that they're a terrible choice to center a rhythm game around because nothing will be challenging. It doesn't need to be Dream Theater or Dragonforce, but come on, can't it be a little more difficult?

No, screw that. It's all pop. Just because they use different effects and play even fewer notes that usual does not make it interesting to PLAY, which is what you want to do right. It's not technically interesting music, which is going to make it boring. Rush is progressive, the Beatles are not.
