my assumption was that they needed to separate themselves from Forza3, that they felt it was diluting their brand value.

Nitrous is safe if used properly, just like gasoline, diesel or natural gas.
The gas itself is not flammable, but it delivers more oxygen than atmospheric air by breaking down at elevated temperatures.

of course precaution needs to be taken as the increase in power delivery may require reinforcement of engine weak points and modification to dissipate rapid heat buildup.

personally i'm a fan of the "all motor and nothing hotter than Sunoco premium" crowd and would probably never personally use Nitrous, but its certainly not any more dangerous than the person that applies it.
