@Timjoy well, its completely different in its type of difficulty, Ninja Gaiden was all about fast reflexes and stringing the right combos at the right times. Dark souls offers difficulty in another way: it offers VERY little help when it comes to directing the player towards the right path, and it also has some creatures/bosses that will literally kill you in 1 or 2 hits, but are beatable if you learn their moves. I would say both games are as difficult, but in very different ways.
@TraceurRyuk Part III well, i think it shouldnt get game of the year because, like all their games (Bethesda), it "breaks" after reaching a certain level. when you make a game thats all about dragons, yet allow the player to literally 1 shot them, that game stops being about dragons and just becomes a modern version of Duck Hunt. and while Duck Hunt was great at the time, at least it used a physical gun as its gimmick to make it cool. Skyrim fans out there: sorry, your game breaks easily and is not in my top 10 of this year. Dark souls for #1 all the way.
@devwild the bugs you are mentioning are normal if you're playing an MMO or something, but a single player game rarely has "falling thru the world or stuck characters forever" bugs
i don't agree that writing always takes a backseat in videogames, it's just that some designers do not give the writing enough love. Diablo 2 is ancient, yet it probably had one of the best storylines and endings a game could have, same would be said about starcraft. then again, that's blizzard and they are very story-driven. Shadow of the collosus and Ico both delivered wonderful endings, no narration needed or anything, those two games get a huge amount of respect from me simply because they managed to tell an epic story, a perfect conclusion, without having 2 hour cut scene endings, which i think is the worst thing you could do to a game (mgs4... wth was that i fell asleep listening to all that fluff). Games can have amazing endings, all they need is a good story to build up on. oh, dead space? pretty nice ending too.
button mashing, mouse mashing, potato mashing, its all good as long as the game (or meal) is good. CC is a brilliant game and i thoroughly enjoyed both the single and multiplayer modes. Addicted.
