Jun 27th 2007 2:39AM (Joystiq Nintendo)But, it is probably the pressure the ESRB and the horrible attention they and Rockstar have been receiving from these anti-game activists that has caused this. Is the game really worse than the first one? Even at that, the ESRB shouldn't let these jerks run their business that way. Stand up for yourself. Most of the gaming community supports you.
I really don't get the AO rating that much in the end anyway. Yeah, I understand labeling a very graphic game, but...The age difference is 1 year and you have to be 18 to buy a damn M rated game anyway. Messed up it is.

May NPD: Nintendo still on top, industry sales up 49%
Jun 14th 2007 9:22PM (Joystiq)I could admit its saturated with gimmicky games, but then again, its not even a year after launch. Give the thing some time and you get the games we all want.
And its good to see the sales are going well. Maybe more companies will see potential in this thing.
But honestly, we need this control technology with true horsepower. That's when innovation can shine a bit more.

Is the Wii less powerful than the original Xbox?
May 10th 2007 7:30PM (Joystiq Nintendo)Of course, I think in the end run the Wii probably has the advantage over the XBox. I mean, Galaxy looks better than any(most) XBox game. Really goo in fact (a friend, who is a tech whore, was impressed, if that means anything); diverse shaders, great lighting, high polygon count, good, full effects and nice resolution textures. Supposedly having a gravity physics engine running, I wouldn't be the last to say it shows the Wii is just starting (the physics is from an article I read on Wiki, so I won't say its proven). We haven't seen updated Metroid Prime 3 footage or screens, but its probably getting up there. Then there's the Gundam game. Umbrella Chronicles is looking nice too.
But, a few speculations:
The eDRAM used in the GCN and 360 is probably in the Wii, so there it gets a minor advantage (since NEC did the GPU) and its probably upgraded from the GCN, if it exists. That's a total hypothesis though, but I would suspect its there.
I could say the GCN was more efficient than XBox, as one mentioned it uses the PowerPC architecture and while the XBox was clocked considerably higher, its definitely not as good in working, so a faster, updated version of that is definitely going to help.
The RAM is still 1T-SRAM, right? Its good RAM, but I have no idea if it was made better or faster or if its the same as before...I'll go with more of the same, which isn't bad.
Also notice when you play the games, see how load times barely exist. Going from field to field in Twilight Princess is near-seamless (maybe Metroid Prime 3 won't have doors stalling for loading the next room).
Factor 5 voiced their opinion on their disappointment, and from their comments I gathered the system was definitely capable of great things. And consider this, if a game is made for HD 720 or 1080, think about the resolution. Go to your computer and turn a game from 640x480 to 1600x1200(if you have a supporting monitor) and there is likely to be a far different wattage output and your framerate will alter considerably. But, like the PS3 (in ways), the developers need time to figure out ideas and how to use the Wii Controller, and that could be why we see half-assed ports and the like. I still don't believe the Wii is as capable as the other two, but its not so far behind it can't suffice.
