Judd: Each actual "shooter" requires six or seven people for support. Food, equipment, medical aid, administration... The money piles up quickly. And that's just for the Army. The Navy and Air Force are worse.
At this point I definitely support Sony telling its developers to take their time and perfect their titles - the initial burst in which rushed games could have been effective to the sentiment surrounding the console is long past.
I do have to admit that a racing game in this day and age that doesn't have online multiplayer is almost beyond belief. These are not games that fare well with even only a 2-player split screen mode. You need that full TV, and having raced hundreds of laps online in PGR2 I can say that the game would have been worth significantly less without that functionality. Do NOT release this game without online multiplayer.
You guys really should follow the model the GameSpot people are using - a total refusal to ever put Mr. Thompson's name in the news from this point forward.
That'll be a nice little free tech demo for the masses.
Aside from the smirk at yet another broken promise from Sony that's mandatory from an Xbox 360 owner like myself, this is a good thing in the end. Forget GT4 redone, get working on GT5 because we all know it's going to be a while in development.
I believe that Sony realizes that fighting this battle on the strength of the games is not a great tactic. After all, the amount of exclusives either side has got can almost be counted on one hand.
So they try to sell it as a unit. An "it" gadget. Something so inexplicably cool that if you have to ask why you should buy it, you're not "with it".
Myself, I'll stick with my Xbox 360 until at least next year, but it's an interesting marketing angle. One also notes that MS did the same thing with their console - talked up the Xbox Live community and other such intangibles rather than the games.
Hey, great video guys. Didn't know you were doing this. Bit of a high-pitched hum in the background but I'm wearing pretty high-end earphones so maybe not everyone is getting that.
You've pretty much sold me on the headset, though it's $69.99 CDN up here in Toronto, Canada. Maybe I just have an oddly-shaped head, but the standard wired headsets are plain uncomfortable. I miss the old Xbox behind the ear style ones.
Simple, with good dramatics. If not for the fact that a good amount of people will probably see the font and think, "Cool, Spiderman 3!" this would be a great ad strategy.
TotemBall, which is a free download for Xbox 360 users who have bought the Xbox Vision Camera, is possibly the most tiring game ever.
It literally has an Achievement for playing for 20 minutes straight. There are also pickups in the game specifically meant to let you rest your arms for 5 to 10 seconds. This coming from a pretty fit person who plays soccer weekly in a league.
