Battlefield 3 'probably' shipping with online pass

Aug 2nd 2011 3:50PM (Joystiq)
This argument is getting annoying. Countless times I have seen, "oh the old user doesn't matter because it won't be online at such and such time as the new user." This is true, but that old user's data still sits on the server. If say 50 people trade in their game, that means 100 accounts have been created, 50 of which are sitting there clogging up space, and the other 50 are there with no compensation given to EA.

Sure it may cost less than $10 to create or house another account, but it also costs less than $1000 to build a Macbook Air but people still buy it in droves reinforcing the price. Do you want video games to continue to be made? Even though money, and girls, can be the root of all evil, it makes the world go round. So if they can get some money out a re-sale, why shouldn't they?

Battlefield 3 'probably' shipping with online pass

@jsx

Battlefield 2 is 6 years old and last updated almost 2 years ago...get over it.

@superkyle

EA has to keep the user information from the original poster on their server AND create space for the new user that bought it used. Thus they receive one pay for 2 accounts. It's not like EA knows that someone traded their games in and delete traders account.

I have no problem with this whole online pass thing, as long as they keep it free with new purchases. Wouldn't you be pissed if you created a product and then someone sold said product and you didn't receive a dime for it? Sure it is a money grab, but it is business being business and damn them for trying to turn a profit.
