Sony moves a step closer to junk; outlook "negative"

Oct 12th 2006 2:35PM (Joystiq)
"Every gamer knows Nintendo hardware quality is 1st rate. Nobody can say the same for Sony products."

Spoken like a true N-loyalist.

Of course, nevermind the cracking DS Lite hinge, the godawful plasticky nightmare that was the Phat, etc.

While I haven't had any reliability issues with DS units myself, saying 'nobody can say the same' for a Sony product is pure Sonyhater tripe. My first-run PSP imported from Japan 12/04 has never so much as hiccuped after almost two years of fairly regular use, a few drops onto hard surfaces and getting mauled by my nieces.

Get off this Mac fanatic style kick, N-freaks. Nintendo isn't Apple, the Whee isn't an iPod or Powerbook.

And Vlad, no matter how many spittle-spattered anti-Sony blogs you write, they're not going anywhere. Sorry.

Xyanide Resurrection features new video-streaming technology

This is where the first Playstation really shined - New developers, new game engine technology, fresh ideas. This is far better news to me than an overpriced limited edition case that's only available overseas.

As long as these backdrops can maintain some degree of interactivity with the stuff going on in the foreground, this could open the door for some interesting games. This influx of new licensed developers could really help the PSP scene.

Australia <3 PSP, according to SCEA

Alien, I do think they're talking about 22 million shipped to retailers. To Sony, that number DOES mean sold, and I obviously find the whole 7-10 million sitting around collecting dust theory to be utterly laughable, but there likely is some margin between the 'shipped' and 'sold' figures. My guess, based on what I've read from various sales figures (none of which are truly complete), is that there could be as big a gap of 3 or maybe 4 million, but that's it. I seriously doubt Sony is 'lying' about their shipped figure as many Nintendo types would like you to believe.

20 units at one Wal-Mart (the most I've seen is 12 at WM, and about 8 at Target) doesn't equate to SEVEN MILLION. And even if there were that many just sitting and collecting dust, 1). nobody would be ordering more and 2). that means *15* million have sold (if 22 million have shipped), which I still think is a ridiculous notion.

If you were to take every Wal-Mart (a bit under 4,000 stores including Sams Club) in the USA and say they have 20 PSP units just sitting there (again, a very pessimistic and inflated estimate), that comes to 78,620 PSP units. That's a bloody far frigging cry from 7 MILLION, dude.

The difference between you and others of us who cross post is, we don't bash the DS like you bash the PSP. In fact, other than Granavatarfakeboy here pretending to be the tardmaster of PSP owners, I see very few to no PSP Fanboy people bashing the DS here or anywhere else. Meanwhile, almost every two or three blogs here gets one or more trolling posts dumping on the PSP.

"last time i checked there were about 12M in july,"

There's absolutely no way PSP sales were that low. 8 million units just floating around? The PALGN article that asserted this back then was full of shit. The author is a true blue DS fanboy - He pulled some country sales figures from his ass, extrapolated much of Europe (very low) and totally disregarded other countries and non-Japanese Asian sales. That, plus he counts NPD as total USA sales, which is hilarious since NPD doesn't account for any online sales. Make no mistake, PALGN is not a credible source for PSP sales numbers.

I do agree the DS isn't more skewed toward female consumers than male, but it's definitely more appealing to younger and more female audiences than the PSP - hence its broader (obviously) sales performance. The PSP has certainly broadened the handheld market into the older demographic, though, as evidenced by its fairly constant sales despite the spiking DS sales.

How-To: Add an analog stick to your PSP

I think it's a waste of time. How are you supposed to hold that thing AND the PSP? It's even worse than balancing a DS with the stylus on othe screen while trying to hit buttons. It's like the article just went half way - without a way of mounting it, the mod seems useless.

And I love the blurb about 'only having 5 games'. Har har. Woo, we haven't heard nearly enough about how the PSP has no games, have we? It's so funnay.

And sorry, Stars and Granavatar_OfMe, it's rather obvious the former is the DS Fanboy troll, while the latter is another DS fanboy (same one?) pretending to be a rabid, moronic PSP fanboy.

That little game isn't fooling anyone - I guess the games on your DS aren't as entertaining...

To Sony, 22 million shipped IS sold. They don't operate on a credit system. And according to Nintendo fanboys, there must be 10 million of them just floating around in the Great Beyond, because they keep getting orders for more shipments.

No doubt Target, Wal Mart, EB Games, Gamestop and everywhere else is just stockpiling PSP units to fill all their warehouses - just for fun, right?

First Family Guy gameplay video released

Not a gameplay video - it's a cutscene using what looks like the game engine (cell shaded 3D).

""PlayStation 3," I said.

No Nintendo fanboyism behind the scenes at Joystiq! Nossiree!
