Toshiba Mini NB305 review

Jan 15th 2010 4:46PM (Engadget)
Thankfully, you can get the NB305 for as little as $349. Cheaper isn't always the best and while Acer will sell a lot of AO532h's a lot of people will be drawn to the NB305 and other more expensive netbooks which come out.

What no one mentioned in this review or any of the others is the impact of Windows 7 on the benchmarks and battery life. Windows 7 is probably undercutting performance in both areas about 10 - 20 percent and while it may not be as flashing it works better for computers like this.

Acer Aspire One 532h review

@chandler

$299 for Windows 7 Starter, 10.1" screen, 8 hours of battery, and 160GB hard drive. The extra $100 gets you a lot more computer, but I'm sure you know people like I do who could do a lot more with an extra $100 in their pocket.

For everyone else - this does come in XP, but you have to pay $329, and if you look to buy one you should search AO532h since none of the stores stocking it pull it up as just "532h."

Acer Aspire One 532h review

@Joanna Stern - Sorry to disappoint you but you won't be able to make a N450 hackintosh anytime soon. Apple doesn't have support for the 3150 video card and I'd imagine that they don't have any intentions to add them.

I actually wrote aobut it here: http://www.netbookreports.com/2009/12/how-the-pine-trail-n450-processor-will-keep-intel-on-top/

There are some people who suggest that you can hex edit the drivers of the 3150 so it thinks it's a 3100 but no one has made it work yet.

@dark star - With the 3150 video card. It is NEVER going to play Hulu or Youtube HD on it's own.

This is for people who just want to type and browse on the go.

Also, in the article it says the video card is a 1350, it looks like the numbers got switched around.

Ion netbooks head-to-head: Atom, overcharged?

Dec 30th 2009 4:31PM (Engadget)
Now that the 1201N has been crowned the winner it looks like the people on the site would love to see it compete against a similar sized ULV laptop like the 1410 from Acer. Brand new I think the Acer was selling for $429, it comes with the 4500MD video card which some have said will play HD YouTube videos.

That's the biggest difference between these netbooks and low end laptops. You won't be able to watch a clip on Hulu let alone a show on a dirt cheap laptop. These netbooks are optimzed for the thousands of people leaving their cable company and watching most of their video content online.

Newegg, Zipzoomfly keep selling out of their stock of the 1201N so obviously people want to pay. The only place which seems to have them actually in stock is B&H: http://www.netbookreports.com/2009/12/1201n-asus-netbook-in-stock-at-bh/ - and there's no telling how long that will last.

People want 12" computers which are video centric and have better battery life than "standard" notebooks. I'm not sure anyone would pay more than $500, but that's the sweet spot every manufacturer is going to be aiming toward.

Nintendo Wii Supreme is topped with a layer of gold, sprinkled with diamonds, and priced at £300,000

I don't even think I've ever made that much. I can only imagine what it must be like to blow it on a game console. I actually found out that you can pick up a Wii for $139. You can check it out here: http://www.tvlampsnbulbs.com/2009/12/nintendo-wii-for-139-lowest-price-ever/

ASUS Eee PC 1201N debuts early at Newegg

Thanks Engadget. Now they're all sold out. :(

The best I can do now is preorder from Amazon or B&H.

ASUS Eee PC 1201HA now on sale in the US

Nov 30th 2009 1:08PM (Engadget)
Gotta be honest, I'm really feeling this netbook. I have the 1001HA and even though I've own this for 6 months I'd love to have something with a larger screen even if it means that the battery won't last as long.

The ION version sounds cool, but if I'm going to pay $450 I'd rather have an older C2D notebook with DVD burner, more memory and larger hard drive.

$350 is my limit and at $329, this just might just be up my alley. Found some other great information about the 1201HA here: http://www.netbookreports.com/2009/11/1201ha-asus-netbook-now-available/

Engadget's Black Friday giveaway, part eleven: win a 32GB Zune HD!

Nov 28th 2009 12:28AM (Engadget)
10,000 other comments? Wow - I wish....wish I could get my hands on a Zune MP3 player. I've seen the reviews and all I can think about is how good it would be to actually have one.

Poll: Will you be buying a sub-$100 Blu-ray player for Black Friday?

Nov 26th 2009 2:12PM (Engadget HD)
@Jeff Kibuule - You're in the minority. Most people don't have HDTVs, watch HD content or have blu-ray players. It's great that you have a PS3 though.

As far as everyone else goes, cheap Blu-ray players and cheap movies means that more and more people will actually start buying these. The deal I've seen is for a $69 Blu-ray player at onSale.com: http://www.tvlampsnbulbs.com/2009/11/onsale-win-black-friday-contest-for-best-hdtv-deals/
