@(Unverified) Well would you look at it, skimming through the second time was even funnier! No more than a max of 40 players on the fleet? LOL. Are you hosting your own server or something? This game isn't even remotely close to the Ghost town you're describing.
Even if the number isn't exactly 1.7 million I'm sure they won't be 700,000 people off and there will be well over a million subscribers when they release official numbers (around 1.2).
Although I do think it would be nice if they cut down on some servers that they needed for the initial surge/ new oceanic servers. However, I'm sure people such as yourself would paint that in a a negative light too.
PVP is my favorite aspect of the MMO genre by far, but I'm not sure even great PVP could make me play this game for an extended amount of time. Aesthetically it's unappealing as I could imagine, but that's more of a personal problem. The setting isn't really one that grasps my attention and seems a bit rehashed. Then with no good story to follow the chances of me doing poorly written kill/collector quests are next to zero. Factor in major cultural barriers between the Korean devs and myself and this is a game I'll never log into.
Great article and it really is an excellent time to stress it. Between all the SWTOR rage and the Guild Wars praise it's nice to read something sensible. This, at least, should be something that we hopefully all agree on.
Miracle the MMO is overrated anyways. Some of the best times I've had in the genre have been in some of the simplest games ridden with bugs. Pirates of the Caribbean Online was a complete wreck at launch and still one of my favorite MMOs to date.
So the devs still get final say. . . I like that. As far as the question goes, absolutely not. MMO communities are made up of some of the most backwards, disagreeable people I've ever met. The vocal minority already has too much say in game development. All the QQ has already made developers too conservative. Too many MMO gamers quit too ealry for it to make any sense.
Just look at the cycle that happens here EVERY SINGLE MMO. Months before launched it's praised as the best MMO in history, ever, and anyoe that says the slightest negative thing gets voted off the board. The game releases, it is the worst launch in MMO history, the game will be lucky to retain 100 subs, and the developer will never see a dime and declare bankruptcy.
Let the devs make their game how they originally planned. If the developers don't already have plans for a couple years down the road then it's probably not a game I'd invest much time in anyways. I imagine Cash Shop the MMO would benefit greatly from this though.
tl;dr: Never. Make suggestions? Sure. Decide on content? Never ever ever.
