Nintendo "might" be named in Wii wrongful death lawsuit

Jan 22nd 2007 5:55PM (Joystiq)
I don't agree at all with the lawsuit. It's sad that she lost her life, but the radio station should not be held responsible for her death. They did not force the water down her throat, she did. It was a voluntary contest and she could have stopped whenever she wanted. It is our responsibilty to know what or what not to put into our mouths, not the corporations.
There is a fine line between personal responsibility and corporate responsibility. Too often people do not see that line and try and extort money from corporations. One example would be a person falling on a slippery floor in a store. If there is no signage indicating the danger, then the injured party is almost positively going to win. But who really is at fault for hurting this person. Did the corporation harm the customer through negligence or did the person harm themselves through negligence?
It could be argued either way, but I for one, believe that it is personal responsibility to look after ourselves and corporate responsibility to provide products and services for doing so.

Water in itself does not pose much of a threat and the radio station is not at fault for providing it to her.

PS3 controller wins Emmy award [update 1]

Jan 8th 2007 6:14PM (Joystiq)
"Fianally, some one reconises the greatness of that controller. Nothing but haters, on this site."

Ha
You're not actually serious, right?

P.S. It's Finally not fianally

In all seriousness, however, I don't think that the judges considered all of the candidates for this award as the wiimote beats out the PS3 controller, not just in motion sensing, but in the fact that it has rumble and a built in speaker. It also has a design that isn't 10 years old. Some Fanboy is obviously working behind the scenes here...

Stop the format wars! This disc is both Blu-ray and HD DVD!

Jan 5th 2007 10:28PM (Joystiq)
32. "Seriously, anybody who spends over $30 on a DVD player is a tool."

That is so true.
It's not worth hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of dollars to see more minute detail in a movie you'll probably watch only once. My thirty dollar DVD player plays all the detail I need to see.
I'd pay 100 bucks for a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player. To me, it's not worth anything more.

The Political Game: Censorship in Beantown

Dec 17th 2006 12:03AM (Joystiq)
Well I don't agree with it 100%
This is not going to help the children at all. The point of advertising is to make the person want to play or buy the game. The person who controls the games these kids buy is their parents. Advertising will not cause the children to become increasingly violent, poor parenting will.

As I see it, their are two ways to parent your child: Defensively or Proactively.
Defensively is to attempt to censor all of the violence, sex, drugs, rock and roll, or whatever from your child's life. The problem with this style of parenting is that the children need to know that all of this stuff is out there because when they do come in contact with it (and they will because no amount of censorship can prevent whom they associate with or what they are eventually exposed to) the poor kids won't know how to handle it.
Proavtive parenting is to teach your child between right and wrong and how to deal with these types of problems. No child would grow up to be a carjacking, murderous person if their parents took the time to sit down and talk with them. It is ultimately the parents job to ensure that their kids turn out well, not the corporation's.

StarForce causes 0/10 review for game

Dec 14th 2006 8:46PM (Joystiq)
This is a very bitter.
Bitter like a big ol' bowl of bitterness.
I will attempt to sum up the arguement:
1:Starforce does not prevent pirates from pirating.
2:Many people do not like Starforce because it messes with their computers.
3:Not everyone ends up with a messed up computer.
4:Florent is a weenie.

Here's the thing, Starforce is not doing what it was originally meant for. It is crippling only the legit consumers. The hackers are unnaffected. I do realise, however, that not everyone is affected by StarForce. That's very nice. Just keep it to yourself because it is (whether your computer is affected or not) screwing up PCs, specifically, the PCs owned only by the people who actually bought the game. StarForce is not a well thought out solution to piracy.

I would also like to add that The Boo's Hitler analogy was very informative.

Who's winning: consoles or PCs?

"STILL WAITING FOR GOLDEN SUN 3 DAMMIT!"
Only the weak wait for sequels. I've already made my own "homebrew" rendition of Golden Sun 3 using a cardboard tube, some duct tape, and an old sock. Granted, It's not as good as the original, but then again sequels usually aren't.

Taxing Second Life [update 1]

Oct 17th 2006 6:42PM (Joystiq)
I think that it's perfectly fine to tax virtual things. Taxes make the world go round and although it may seem odd to put a tax on virtual things, real money is being made by these companies.

It doesn't matter if you make your money in the real world, or in cyberspace, the government has a right to put a tax on it, as you are using their money.
