Me too. I love FM for it's SRPG and complex customizations. This news was kind of a dampener for me...I would much more excited if they made it in the same vein as Valkyria Chronicles though.
It seems like none of you get the point of this protest. The protesters are not saying video games cannot be used for simulation. They're not claiming they shouldn't have been arrested. They're not questioning anybody's patriotism and they're not protesting against the war. They're not protesting the existence of the military and they're not saying anything about excessive or unnecessary government spending.
They are protesting the fact that the ARMY is recruiting youths as young as 13. And I have to agree. 13 is not the age the ARMY should be targeting. We all love video games, and everybody here should know the difference between a game and real war. But there's a whole generation of impressionable young people who don't. At such a young age, it really is like brainwashing. (Did you see the facility that they set up? It reminds me of the scientology stories and re-enactments.)
One of the organizers pointed out that it's illegal to market cigarettes, alcohol, and pr0n to 13 year olds. I don't think recruiting 13 year olds for armed service should be legal either. It is not a question of patriotism or love of country. It's more about ethics. We don't torture. And we shouldn't be recruiting children either (I know they can't serve in the military, but the ARMY is trying to get them interested, which is really the first step in the recruitment process).
They could just increase the age limit to 17 years old. But they won't because it's just so much easier to hook the younger ones. Think about that.
