I can't help but notice vague similarities between this and the 6120c of 2007 vintage. Allow me to geek out a bit here:
Both are 3G candybars running S60 3rd edition, both have numeric keypads, both have 2"-ish screens at 240x320, both have dual cameras with front-facing VGA for video calls. The only real differences are in terms of processor (369 MHz ARM11 v. 600 MHz ARM11), actual screen size (2.0" v. 2.2"), stereo jacks (2.5mm v. 3.5mm), and main camera resolution (2.0 megapixels v. 3.15 megapixels). Oh, and the inclusion of A-GPS. Either way, though, this is clearly a spiritual successor to the 6120c, a phone that served me well for many months... until I lost it.

@UK31337 Sainsbury's needs to get in on this game.

Imagine what the Sainsbury's Basic's version would be like: white 3G 8GB in a plain cardboard box with an orange stripe and something passive aggressive like "slower and older, but still an iPhone!" written in nice lettering across the bottom. Also, can you really "Taste the Difference" when it comes to consumer electronics? The mind boggles...

I live in London, so I know the problems with this app firsthand (although, I'm sure many worldwide city-dwellers do as well). The main issue is that it requires you to hold your iPhone out in front of you for extended periods while lost. The one time I used my iPhone, even clandestinely, to navigate in London, it attracted the wrong kind of attention, and I was mugged. Imagine throngs of tourists/lost people holding their iPhones right in front of their faces while walking around strange neighbourhoods. What's more, this app only shows you where the station is as the crow flies. London is a rabbit warren of alleyways and cul-de-sacs. Knowing that the station is "over there" is incredibly useless unless you know which streets to take. All that said, though, the technology behind this app is very cool. I just wish that it debuted in a... more thought out format.

Those poor bastards of three years ago! Myself? I haven't seen a full size SD card in a long while...

Also, I love that the first Micro SD (T-Flash) cards came in "32MB, 64MB, and 128MB varieties." Nowadays 1GB is pretty standard, and they go up to 16GB!

I just use my iPhone. Safari pointed to cooksillustrated.com*, the Units app standing by for conversion, the Clock app's timer... er... timing, and the iPod entertaining me while my stuff bakes (or, better still, the Remote app controlling my iTunes music library which is being piped to my Airport Express, connected to the speakers atop my fridge). Is it "kitchen-safe"? Well, I can always pop it in my pocket when the going gets rough. All that for the price of this thing.

I think the assumption is that if you're only willing to pay $80 for a PAP, you probably won't be forking out for 3rd party earbuds. I feel like I have to say this every time, but this isn't meant for people like us; i.e. people who chuck the pack-ins the second they get the device. Most people are satisfied with Apple's earbuds, and so they should be: they're some of the best pack-in earbuds out there, and sound really great for their price.

I'll never forgive CDs for killing off wax cylinders. Luckily, some of my favourite artists are still releasing onto the format: Relevant Elephant, Rayon Mammoth, Bunker Sorbet... The fidelity of that lo-fi, crappy analogue sound is just amazing!

Why does this sort of stuff always happen to bloggers? It's like people with an in-built audience and a modicum of tech-savvy are prone have terrible, random defects with their computers.
