PSN Thursday: MGS1 infiltrates the PSOne Classics' ranks

Jun 19th 2009 7:02AM (Joystiq)
I want to know what video game store Jem goes to that would have a sealed copy of Metal Gear Solid in a bargain bin! Sealed classic original PlayStation games like Metal Gear Solid don't even exist in the major chains here, and the smaller chain and independent stores charge an arm and a leg for sealed copies of old games like these. Even ebay auctions are all over the place for near mint copies!

Metal Gear Solid Rising getting re-done graphics engine

Jun 13th 2009 10:31PM (Joystiq)
How was he a pussy in 4? So what if he moped around once in awhile? HE STOPPED A TANKER! HE KILLED SEVERAL HIGHLY-TRAINED SOLDIERS WITH NO ARMS AND A SWORD HELD BY HIS TOES! All moping forgiven!

And there is plenty of room left for story for Raiden.
What about the time between Metal Gear Solid 2 and 4? How did Raiden turn into a ninja? How did he save Sunny? When did Rose leave him? It was never explained in detail: not in the game, the guide's history section or the database.

Same goes for Big Boss. I mean, just HOW did he create his own country?

Metareview -- Persona 4 (PS2)

YES, ABSOLUTELY!

PS2 is still strong and has some terrific games. Who cares if it is on an older console? Why does that matter? I still regularly play my PS1 games on my PS3. Why? Because they are great games! Period.

And I would be proud if an EB employee scoffed at my choice of game, especially if it were an Atlus title. Just goes to show how little they appreciate a solid game that does not have a huge advertising budget.

40$ is a steal for a game that truly deserves to be priced more competitively. It's one of the very few games of this season that merits it, due to its incredible value.

Stand-alone, but with common elements.

I do agree about the PS2 w/ composite cables.

For those with PS3s who say their PS2 games look like crap, try upscaling it to Full Screen and then changing the picture size of your TV to 4:3. You preserve the original aspect ratio and the game should look really sharp. Smoothing is an option that people have different opinions on, so see for yourself.

I have a 60GB with the Emotion Engine, but I can't imagine the 80GB's emulator works differently.

Oh, and my copy of P4 is late, but does anyone know if they made it 16:9 or added progressive scan?

Nega-Review: Fallout 3

Oct 30th 2008 12:18AM (Joystiq)
As a game, it's great, fantastic even, with the pros heavily outweighing the cons. Nevertheless, this game is not Fallout. Not merely in the gameplay, but in every aspect of its story and presentation.

I still love it, but calling it Fallout requires a large stretch of imagination.

If you haven't played either games in the original series, you are missing out, so I recommend you pick them up.

Isometric-based games are not "unplayable today." That line is utter bollocks. Just because point-and-click adventure games are not as prevalent as before (Telltale Games notwithstanding) does not make the Monkey Island series unplayable. Wolfenstein 3D may not have strafing but it is still incredibly enjoyable, no?

Saying games were great when they came out, but are now dated is bollocks. Citizen Kane doesn't suddenlysuck because we have colour and 7.1 surround sound in films now.

Fallout 1 & 2 are paradigms, much like Grim Fandango, Prince of Persia 1 & 2, Doom, etc.

Tangents aside, because I am beginning to go way off topic, I love the game, but hate the title.

I am not a "purist." The gameplay, story, setting, pretty much everything is changed. The connections are gone.

If you made Monkey Island three dimensional, changed the mechanics completely, erased all the unique qualities of its humour, created nonsensical threads linking it with its predecessors, and ultimately disassociating it with its namesake, wouldn't you be perplexed?

...get it? I sure hope so.

Activision Blizzard CEO questions rhythm game royalties yet again

Sep 28th 2008 12:46AM (Joystiq)
A lot of people are making good points on this comment board. Kotick's comments are completely ridiculous. The industry is dying, and giving up all the money involved with rhythm games is a shot in the foot. Them paying you, Bobby, are you crazy!

I'm not giving you my art, or the art I helped produce, for free. This is my job. It is how I earn my living.

How can Bobby be so arrogant and feel like he can get away with these comments? Because Activision Blizzard is owned by Vivendi who owns the Universal Media Group who own EVERYTHING! Even if they refuse to promote 90% of their property, UMG owns enough music, especially more recent Pop hits, that the average consumer would never realize what little amount of WMG, SonyBMG or EMI music ends up in future Guitar Hero instalments and DLC, granted Kotick keeps pissing people off and/or takes the easier route of just licensing music that will never get refused.
