Samsung Moment gets Android 2.1 update from Sprint, Hero users promised to be next
May 14th 2010 4:52PM (Engadget)Calm down there lil buddy, it'll be alright.
Those are bugs that exist with 2.1 regardless of Phone, with exception of CDMA lockup.
Again all issues that would come from a stock update anyways. In my line of work a major bug is called a show stopper, no such bugs exist and nothing that would make using your phone impossible.
You specifically said features that didn't work and I just stated all my features work fine, sure a bug here and there and that I actually got a lot more features out of it.

May 14th 2010 4:04PM (Engadget)You're crazy.
It's unbelievably easy to Root your phone and install 2.1. Hell Win Mo was harder in that you had to flash a custom SPL. Coming from Win Mo this is easy.
All my hardware works, zero crashes. I actually unlocked a lot more features and didn't lose any in the process.
Sprint: Samsung Moment and HTC Hero Android 2.1 updates now coming 'in Q2'
May 7th 2010 4:05PM (Engadget)To be completely honest their hardware sucks. Still using that shitty Qualcomm MSM7200 core, on the Moment it's overclocked to 800MHz but doesn't change the fact that it's still shitty hardware.
Wait for the EVO. Verizon has stated that the Nexus One replacement would be their HTC Incredible, I wouldn't be surprised if Sprint says the same thing about EVO and that Nexus One isn't coming to Sprint either.
Not to mention the ridiculous price on the Touch Pro 2, still $250 on Contract. Correction the Touch Pro 2 is now $199. Still a rip off considering the hardware behind it.

May 7th 2010 3:57PM (Engadget)I see what you're looking at now.
This thread:

According to his instructions you need Joey Krim recovery on the phone to do this. So Calkulin's upgrade will work like the upgrade from DD03 to DD10, he's just made some modifications. You would apply this using the same method. So you should be fine using the first link I posted.

May 7th 2010 3:44PM (Engadget)What forum are you using SDX?
I didn't actually perform the 2.1 upgrade on my phone, a co-worker with the same phone did it for me, I didn't have my USB cable on me.
He used the following:
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/android-2-1-development/%28how-to%29-root-android-2-1-dd03-v5/
You have to install DD03 first using the Sprint update tool. A warning to you though, this completely wipes all your data. Make sure your contacts are backed up. I know for me I was playing this game called World War by Storm8. Well you can't backup any of Storm8's android games so I had to live with loosing all my World War progress. Your contacts should be backing up to your gmail account.
After you finish that upgrade and get joey krim's recovery working, then you can upgrade to DD10 from this thread.
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/android-2-1-development/android-dd10-system-update-released/
Joey Krim's recovery and similar software on SDX-Devlopers allows you to update your system, i.e. from build DD03 to DD10 without loosing your personal data.

May 7th 2010 3:35PM (Engadget)What is there to backup? SMS/MMS messages maybe?
As for Contacts they sync to your gmail account so when you flash a new rom it automatically syncs your contacts.
I don't have any important SMS/MMS messages so I didn't need to save any of mine. There are some apps that will backup everything if you root your phone.
There is also an app that can forward your txts to GMail and will restore them once on your new ROM.

May 7th 2010 3:29PM (Engadget)Yea cuz having two different apps for the same OS, iPad vs. iPhone apps makes so much more sense. No fragmentation there...

May 7th 2010 3:13PM (Engadget)Works awesome for me. Been running it for about 3 weeks now. Battery kind of sucks which I'm hoping the official Sprint update will resolve.
I'd never go back to 1.5. The improvements in Bluetooth alone are worth it. I use a BT wireless stereo headset to listen to music so it was a big deal for me.

Apr 27th 2010 12:41PM (Engadget)Huh? Still waiting for? I use hardware accelerated flash on my Thinkpad Edge, works perfect.
Sure it's still in Release Candidate form but it is usable. Maybe you mean officially supported.
