Some PSN services to return this week, full services 'within this month'
May 1st 2011 10:19AM (Joystiq)There's a difference when it's a known exploit. It's then becomes just a matter of time before it's taken advantage of. It hacker's business to know about these exploits.
'There is no such thing as the perfect system' is becoming a tired cliche. That's why networks are constantly being patched and updated. Alot changes in network security in 4+ years. Sony thought it was ok to sit on their hands.

May 1st 2011 9:29AM (Joystiq)they knew about the exploit and did nothing about it until everything was taken.
If someone plans a bank robbery you at least expect the bank to lock the door. This is pure incompetence on Sony's part. Blaming the hackers is pointless at this point, if you leave a gaping hole in your security someones going to get in.

May 1st 2011 2:23AM (Joystiq)I think it is pretty obvious from the response that the security was below standard.
They're not just fixing the hole they're completely revamping the system, if the system was up to standards they wouldn't need all this time to fix it. They didn't even encrypt our personal info and passwords that's extremely poor practice.
The monitoring is another important part of the security and they didn't even notice the intrusion till days later and still can't even confirm what information was taken.

PSN 'welcome back program' includes a free download, 30 days free PlayStation Plus, Qriocity
May 1st 2011 1:26AM (Joystiq)Essentially using free trials to services I have no interest in to fish out some repeat trade, more of a marketing plan than a goodwill gesture. I hope there's more to the press conference than this or it will be some shameless grandstanding.
I'd much rather they put the work in to making PSN a better service than handing out free gifts. New features like cross game chat and the maintenance of the Playstation Store with more content and a more competitive pricing structure would be a step in the right direction.

'It wasn't our fault someone penetrated our impenetrable network, don't blame us, blame the hackers for hacking!'
