PSN Tuesday: Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta is here
Jun 28th 2011 7:44PM (Joystiq)Well, that's the point. You are not some kind of privileged "early-adopter" for this game. You are being used to testing how the server are stressed.
You are not here for a smooth gameplay experience, you are here for testing and being tested. If you get angry for a beta being with so many issues, then beta are not meant for you buddy.
Kinect-enabled TV ads demonstrated on video
Jun 28th 2011 1:18PM (Joystiq)Is whole different scenario.
SOE games are not ADVERTISED(read: showing to the public) that they are running on a Windows PC, like double-clicking on the game icon to lunch the game or something similar. Is implicit, but never is shown or advertised among Windows.
The same goes for Vaio Laptops. They are never shown promoting Windows, neither they are shown navigating through any Windows OS in their advertisements. By default, we know they run Windows OS, but they never explicitly show that You got it?
In this ad, they explicitly show a Sony TV, when they could grab another brand like Samsung or Toshiba. They EXPLICITLY are showing a competitor's brand in an advertisement for a product rivaling with another Sony product (Playstation, Playstation Move).

Metareview: Duke Nukem Forever
Jun 13th 2011 1:09PM (Joystiq)This is no longer valid point since the gaming industry went into what is today: an industry based in corporatism and no longer an industry lead by people that enjoy fun.
The majority of the review sites are paid for big companies to score a game with good reviews, even when they arent good games. How many times have you seen good games getting bad scores and bad games published by big publishers get good scores?
Why Call of Duty always keep getting good reviews when every single year is the very same game at the core, they just change the enviroments, the weapons and the story, otherwise is the same game? Because Activision pays to most of the review sites to place a good score.
At the end, I dont read reviews because I AM THE ONLY ONE that know my own tastes and likes. No other person can tell me what I want to play or not. The reviewer saw a outdated graphics, bad gameplay elements and bad level designs. Well I played this game and it looks better than your average FPS released in the past 3 years, bad gameplay? It plays just like other FPS out there with 2 weapon system and auto regenerative health. Bad level design? Duke crosses through many places around the world.
But the love for this series is not about all of the above, but about the character and what makes this character being in that way. This is not the over-exaggerated brutal killing that is Bulletstorm, where that game is specifically targeted towards your average 15 year old kid with hunger for blatant word and repulse for the society. This game is catered towards that kids from the late 90's that played Duke Nukem 3D and wanted the next game in the series.
If I go to write a review, my first paragraph would be something like: "Before start my review I want to advice that the following review is based on standards for a game that is not competing against recent released titles, but is reviewed against a legacy that comes from the 90's, if you have 16 years old or less, research about Duke Nukem first and then read this" and then I will start reviewing this game with that nostalgia and memories that the 90's bring us back, when the games were games for the fun of being fun.
Metareview: Duke Nukem Forever
Jun 13th 2011 12:22PM (Joystiq)This game's value come from where it left: the 90's culture. Maybe kids around 10 years or less will not appreciate this game, because they didnt live on that era, but any guy around 15 or more will know that this game comes from an era where games were only games for the sake of being fun.
Back then ,we didnt need a great cinematographic experience, we didnt need a 10 score on acting voices, we didnt needed a oscar-winning-like story, developers didnt need protect the portrayal of characters because some feminist groups, we didnt need photo realistic animations with one trillion of polygons on each finger, we didnt need complex gameplay mechanics and controls that appears to be designed for people with 8 fingers on each hand.
We just needed some fun, and with the overacted characterization of Duke like a Macho from those 90's movies Duke Nukem 3D caught the heart of those gamers from 90's.This game need to be reviewed not against 90's standards, but how a standalone product that come from the 90's to complete the circle that now is closed.
This is the 90's culture, and I want that culture to come back again.

Duke Nukem First Access Club gets free multiplayer DLC
Jun 2nd 2011 1:50PM (Joystiq)If its true, then I will pass on this game. Sorry but I dont support this dirty strategy and I will never buy a game that has this kind of crap.
I will never buy a single game that have this system implemented, even if that means that I only will be getting games from Sony ( I only own a PS3) as all other developers are starting to include this system.
Even I dare to say that this will mean that in a short-term, I will be quiting from gaming, since all the future released games will include it.
