Killzone 3 review: Third time's the harm

Feb 3rd 2011 2:58PM (Joystiq)
@Mr Esc is the namesarcasm is my One of the differences between Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 is the actual amount of story content. Killzone 3 has nearly 90 minutes of cutscenes to watch. Having half an hour of bad storytelling is one thing. Having to sit through three times as much really brings down the experience, in my opinion.

@Johnnynumber5 is powered by cell Having read some of the other reviews since posting this, I will say that I think many of the reviews are entirely valid. Personally, I'd agree with Eurogamer the most: I miss the touches that made Killzone feel unique. Pandering to the "critical mass" isn't what I was looking for, as a fan.

I've commented on Move to other people here, and I have to say I didn't get much time with it, just because I'm not particularly adept to that kind of play. (Even on the Wii, I am not good at "pointer" games.) I do think the responsiveness is good, but you will definitely need to tweak the settings to your liking.

@scratchh I used Move briefly, and I have to admit that I am not particularly skilled with pointer-based shooting. (Wasn't on the Wii, either.) I can say that it works, and that if that's your preferred method of play, it will be entirely functional.

If you're interested in it, you should check out the Sharp Shooter as well. I don't find it very comfortable, but it is a very neat and totally different way of playing the game.

@Credge Well, that was what made Killzone 2 so unique. Even without those expectations though, Killzone 3's campaign definitely fails on several fronts.

There are some truly awesome moments that take advantage of the "sci-fi" aspect. I think my review details some of them. I wish the whole game were that consistent though.

@i77ogical Well, it's hard to score something that's essentially two games in one. If you're only looking for single player, you probably want to notch it down a little. If you're only looking for MP, you probably want to raise it.

@Truant That's a really good comparison. Gears 2 was a big disappointment for me, and I loved Gears 1.

@Epoque I didn't like them in KZ2. The Helghast are really amazing in KZ3. Love the art style too.

@Laivindil Flight Control is not coming out to the US PlayStation Store. There was some kind of rights issue, I believe.
