Raleigh officials envision "world's first" LED lit city
Feb 15th 2007 1:25PM (Engadget)I think evidence was presented that LED is not efficient for this type of application compared to other technologies, so I will impugn away. Questioning decisions made by those in seats of authority is citizens duty. I'm sorry if you were sitting on the Advisory Board and took other peoples biased facts and figures at face value. Maybe you should have done more of your own research (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_bulb_%28disambiguation%29 is a good start...sodium vapor among others looks good ...no?) to present to the Board, rather than listening to presentations of what must have been some form of lobbying from Cree,Progress, and other interested parties.Instead of awarding contracts to change lighting systems to improve Raleigh's environment, maybe the "Board" should get focused on real issues facing the citizens and improve/build a mass transit for the Triangle. Too bad Cree doesn't make light rail systems huh?
Raleigh officials envision "world's first" LED lit city
Feb 14th 2007 11:15AM (Engadget)But hey... who needs improvements to real infrastructure, like mass transit to decongest that hellish traffic and improve air quality, when we have shiny new lights in our parking garages! Politics....it's a shady business...even when lit by LED ;)
...and BTW Glenwood needs a helluva lot more improvement than Hillsborough.
Video Marketplace is open for business
Nov 22nd 2006 2:59PM (Joystiq Xbox)Pricing is a little iffy too. $6 for a new HD movie can work for awhile, but they need to extend the viewing period by a few days or lock it up with DRM for ownership on a locally networked Vista Harddrive for somewhere between 9.99-19.99.A subscription service would be the best solution in the long term to compete though...probably coming when they get more content.Figure the studios are saving a ton by not having to pacakge their content into a box or burn it to media. Maybe they will pass the savings on to us!?

3.Sony/PS3/Connect(or whatever the hell that network is)/PSP/sony linux-ish OS?
Content companies like the movie/TV studios love it. All locked up nice and neat from their servers to your little box. Hell, it wouldn't shock me if once the market grows, Studios ended up saying "screw you NBC I'm taking this sitcom to M$ as LIVE network exclusive."
One problem they forgot about though..the Pirates are lurking in the mist waiting for the booty.
