Multiple Windows 7 versions coming? Say it ain't so!

Jan 25th 2009 1:51PM (Engadget)
Anyone remembering the old Windows setups? Where you could actually decide what to add to your basic install by selecting different programs and services? If I remember correctly you could make those decisions up until Windows ME ... so why not ship a feature packed disc to the customer these days and let him choose, whether he wants Media Center functionality or not, this or that Windows program installed and what services should be present? With a optional default install of course for the "computer technology challenged user" ... one disc, one price

Square Enix: 360 easier to develop on than the PS3

Dec 16th 2008 11:04PM (Joystiq Xbox)
You might want to cross out the "every" and replace it with "some" ... Criterion Games for example used the Playstation3 as the lead platform for Burnout Paradise, and I don't think you base that choice on the "hard to develop on" part.

Square Enix: 360 easier to develop on than the PS3

The words you might want to highlight in that article are "Unreal Engine", that's an already existing middle ware platform with a range of tools for the system ... so "all they had to do" was to fill in the blanks, as the 2D/3D engine, the scripting libraries, the materials and their physics are already there just not in the right place.

If Square Enix started from scratch with just the system specs and not a single bit of software written, I'm pretty sure they would have found some heavy boulders down the 360 road as well.

A look inside Gears of War 2's arcade

Noah's Arcade in Aurora, IL. Excellent times :)

TGS 08: Gears of wh--? Quantum Theory trailer

@ MakaiOokami
Epic owns the engine and the skills to use it, but Microsoft owns the IP to the whole Gears of War Universe. So if there is a GoW3 in the future it'll be a Xbox360 / Xbox NextGen only title as well.

European 360 sales double, outsells PS3 by 2:1

Sep 30th 2008 9:23PM (Joystiq Xbox)
On another note: With the recent price drop in Europe a few of my friends are buying a second or even third console just in case one breaks down.
I currently have 7 people on my list with a box on it's way to the repair shop. 5 of them went and got a Arcade.

European 360 sales double, outsells PS3 by 2:1

- Way Better online
Well there's free online on the PS3 and the rest really comes down to personal preference.
- Better Controller
DualShock3 > Xbox 360 Pad ... but again, personal preference.
- No mandatory installs
One setup to bring down loadtimes, so what? I've installed on the PC for years.
- Fast Title Updates
Well some titles on the PS3 get bigger updates than the occasional mini fix.
- Fast Firware Updates
Okay a PS3 system update takes time, but at least they are bringing them more often.
- New Xbox Experience
System update ... oh look a new UI
- Achievements in every game
That's really just a pro-argument for gamerscorewh**s

And if you really have to come up with that old titles space filler list of games with some soon to be released games thrown in, you really need to check out some more games on Sony's platform.

And just for the record, I own both and play both of them equally.

Jip, that's my guess too ... maybe a movie based video game that doesn't suck: TR2N ... I wouldn't mind, because the last Tron game wasn't that bad :)

Rumor: A 'design sample' of the PSP-3000

I don't know what kind of PSP you own, but my PSP-1000 has built in WiFi.

Home will be region locked

Jul 16th 2008 10:44PM (Joystiq Playstation)
If it's just the public "entry lobby" that is region logged I don't care, as I still can invite everybody to my place, and enter the game specific lobbies for Uncharted and Warhawk they showed together.
Plus they can set up multiple servers for the different regions so everybody has a good connection to those "entry lobbies".
And if I remember correctly you are able to get or buy those arcade machines, pool tables, and bowling lanes for your home; if you really need them and you have enough space in your room, loft, or house.
