@Joey the Squid No, no media extender capability. Tivo will stream music from your network, and stream Netflix, Amazon Unbox, and Blockbuster to your TV, but you can't dump DVD rips or other video files onto the Tivo. External storage is available - the Premiere comes with an e-Sata port for an external hard drive (but you may be limited to the overpriced Tivo branded drive, I'm not sure).
I purchased a Kindle 2 right after they dropped the price to $299, and I ultimately returned it during Amazon's free trial period (note that for all the crap they get about closed formats and book deletions, Amazon's customer service was exemplary). Ultimately, the screen contrast wasn't sufficient for my needs. I think Nicholson Baker nailed it in the New Yorker when he compared it to reading a wet newspaper. I may have gotten a bad screen - I've seen reports elsewhere of users who went through multiple units to find one they liked. I'm still really interested in an ereader, so I stopped in the local Sony Style store the other day. I thought the screens on the PRS-300 and even PRS-600 were better than my Kindle's had ever been. I think this might be a personal preference thing.
Downloading now. I'm stuck on a PC at work, where I use TweetDeck. It's a solid application with some great features. I'm installing TweetDeck for iPhone tonight. I'm particularly excited about the new sync features (one instance each on my work PC, my MacBook, and my iPhone, now I don't have to wade through old tweets each time I launch one).
I have been switching between Twitterfon and Tweetie, but this review led me to download the free version of Twitterriffic. I'm not sure what (if anything) I'm doing incorrectly, but as with many iTunes reviewers, I found that since installing Twitterrific 2.0 that 1) my iPhone is getting VERY hot, and 2) my battery is draining incredibly rapidly. Is there a background process on Twitterriffic that I can disable? It is a memory/battery hog? Without a fix, I am uninstalling and moving on despite all the positive feedback.
I've had nothing but trouble from the NY Times app. It crashes constantly, even after the 2.0 update. I have tried reinstalling several times as each update is released and same problem. Any tips?
I wonder where all these folks live. I'm in Austin, one of the more technologically advanced cities in AT&T's home state. It's geographically compact and, with some exceptions, not particularly hilly or full of tall buildings. Yet I still can't get a reliable enough 3G signal to stream Slacker in my car when I'm driving around town. What about the millions of rural satellite subscribers?
