Canadian Boxing Week Video Game Sales Hub {Joystiq}

Dec 26th 2009 8:02AM "I still think every month should have at least one major holiday that is no less than one month before or after another major holiday."

Amongst the emptier individuals of consumer society, the constant need for spectacle aches at the base of their soul; without question, spectacle, no matter how empty, is what life is made of. For these poor men (a wonderful idea once you consider the vast amounts of capital accumulated in comparison to darker parts of the world) even something as dreary as the administration of days, weeks, and months must be incorporated into some sort of communal spendathon; for this, my friends, is obviously the only way to keep in touch of the various days, weeks, and months of the year.

The spectacle is glorious, the spectacle is true; the spectacle was made for me, and certainly for you. Representation has no correlation to meaning, just as long as something is happening, just as long as months can be ‘organized’ (with a Z) in conjunction with ‘holidays’ so one can celebrate ‘something’ then it will all be okay. Everything will be okay if we can have ‘holidays’ to celebrate ‘something’; meaning comes later: Thus Spoke Sonicspike41.

UK retailers confident in strong 2010 games sales {Joystiq}

Dec 12th 2009 8:35AM There is no blog to report of unfortunately, or fortunately if you are so inclined. A blog breaths on a regular flow of updates and I don't have the dedication to devote time for the required ink to paper, or finger to keyboard. Only at work am I idle enough, but I'm at work, so, yeah.

Anway, Google: Guardian, Charlie Brooker; or Guardian, Marina Hyde.

The former writes about games occasionally, the latter is very clever doll. Reading a few columns by that pair is always a good way to waste away a lazy weekend afternoon.

UK retailers confident in strong 2010 games sales {Joystiq}

Dec 12th 2009 6:21AM There's no diversity in the market anymore. As the big box stores (Tesco, the other supermarkets) slowly increase their grip on the expanded vidya games territory, the traditional game stores and smaller independent retailers face a conundrum. How ever are they to maintain turnover, especially with our current economic woes? Without apt thought, we could steal the mantle of ‘broken man of Europe’ from the Greeks, the Irish, or the Spanish. How to avoid this fate if your business is games? Well, the answer is clear: focus all energies on sure sellers.

New Super Mario Bros Wii is a sure seller. Duty to Call: Combat Warfare is a sure seller. Muramasa isn't, so that means shelf space isn't guaranteed. Finding a copy of that fail copy of King of Fighters is nearly impossible. Or maybe my poor eyesight is blinded by all the electabuzz from the latest Acivision plastic cash-in.

Games seem to be regressing from the glory days of 1999-2003, and all bets are hedged on safe bets and safe bets only. You can see this with all the vulgar thrusting a Game employee is forced to employ just to get your interest peaked in whatever sports game EA are trying to shill. Anything unique is ostracised, and everything vaguely foreign, aka Japanese, is designated to an obnoxious backend with all the PC games, circa 1999. If it’s not Nintendo or a Capcom mainstay, then you have no chance of getting decent shelf space. To see great games like Space Invaders Extreme 2 coddled together in a dusty corner with used copies of Theme Hospital is a travesty.

This survey is nothing more than empty bravado and MVC is a known to be a tawdry rag that nobody considers a useful source. With debt increasing ever further, the recession deepening, and the public suffering because of it, to say you can be positive about 2010, in terms of vidya games sales and what games are, in fact, produced, is nothing more than wishful thinking. Some would go further and suggest such claims are naïve, while others would even tip the hat into stupidity.

Dragon Age: Origins gets patched, tool set released {Joystiq}

Nov 8th 2009 2:31AM "for giving the PC the respect it deserves"

The PC doesn't deserve respect as the PC is a manufactured product, a tool, created for the benefit of human beings. You give people respect, not products. All in all, such ill-thought out statements indicate a slight detachment from the day to day travails of real life and, even worse, an irregular attachment to a cold machine. What's next? You'll notify teh common reader on how you converted your beige box to resemble something akin to a Love Plus love machine? It's sad, and your constant wailing about the PC as a gaming platform is making the site harder to read.

You know, some people should treat the internet like a magazine.

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is pondering a spooky wardrobe {Joystiq}

Oct 25th 2009 2:57AM 2P Start. An easy choice considering the competition, the lack of it anyway.

WRUP: Inefficient good ideas edition {Joystiq}

Oct 24th 2009 11:10AM I completely forgot: has anybody played Suikoden Tierkreis? Silly question when you consider the quality of games people champion on this site, but I thought I'll ask it anyway. So far, nobody has even heard of the game. Maybe that's not a good sign. Regardless of that, after completing Valkyrie Profile DS and getting to, what feels like, the tail end of Disgaea DS, I feel I need another strategy RPG to get rid of this itch.

Or maybe I should ask elsewhere?

Suda 51 wants to remake Grasshopper Manufacture's 'Michigan' {Joystiq}

Oct 24th 2009 8:26AM Ueda helmed two of my most memorable games in the last few years, the two being Contact and Shining Soul 2; as well as being involved in Flower, Sun, and Rain, a right enjoyable game despite its sometimes laughable gameplay mechanics. Hopefully Sakura Note will see a Western release, Tiny Cartridge have been pushing that game rather hard lately. And we all know that Suda is one of the few bright spots in the desolate vidya game landscape that we see today.

Having said all that, I have little faith in this game. I don't have the patience to elaborate on my pessimism, it just looks shit. And not in a semi-detached, ironic, so shit it becomes good, kinda thing. It looks shit.

Oct 24th 2009 6:03AM "Plan on sitting back and having a retro gaming weekend..."

"...Halo"

The idea of retro games is a fallacy in itself, but to claim Halo is retro would be like calling Offspring old school rock. At it's base it's a flawed concept.

Oct 24th 2009 5:45AM Asian Dynamite, Crazy Taxi, and Space Invaders Extreme 2. And probably Street Fighter 4. Playing an arcade with a dodgy joystick...fun times, indeed.
