The Daily Grind: What would make you cancel a pre-order?

Mar 23rd 2012 11:31AM (Massively)
What would make me cancel a pre-order?

Well it would require a large shift in the game's overall sense. Though when these things aren't made apparent until after release, it usually ends up biting me at the end.
Dragon Age 2, for instance, I pre-ordered with the expectation of it being an improved DA: Origins. It wasn't until after I picked up the game, fought with customer support over a week or two just to get my Signature Edition content (copy had nothing in it, even the manual was missing and this was a wrapped new copy), and played through it a bit that I found it was the exact opposite of all of DA: Origins good points, and amplified its negatives.

Now with MMOs, its easier. There's always the guaranteed betas and countless previews. GW2, for instance... I'm still excited for the game of course. Yet I'll admit some trepidation towards the leaked cash shop information.
Now... I'll wait til the official posts detailing whats in there are out so we'll have more concrete information about the items in it before I go into a frenzy. At most... I have a rather annoying issue with one item, see having two items instead of just the one as completely stupid and redundant, and feel a little mixed about another. The rest aren't such a bother to me, unless some shift in overall gameplay occurs.

Liking altering the leveling curve outside of the promised consistent style they have brought up before.

Have Group, Will Travel replaced with faster flight paths, flask "Chug-A-Lug" perk removed

Mar 22nd 2012 12:52PM (WoW)
Maybe its just an error in the description? God knows that has happened plenty of times before.

Maybe they mean "decrease flight time to 0%", as in you get to warp to the area instead of waiting?!

ArenaNet expands on microtransactions in Guild Wars 2

@jimr9999us

Except, of course, you aren't buying gold. Anyone who even bothered to read the blog would notice that, instead of just blindly and dumbly copy-pasting a sentence and going "LUL BY-TOO-WINZ!"

"We have a new player-driven market that allows players to trade gold for gems and gems for gold"
Right there. Its essentially like the "PLEX" system for Eve Online. You can buy it to use it, or buy it to trade it, or earn in-game currency to buy it instead.

Torchlight team remains strong in face of Diablo 3

Mar 19th 2012 12:22PM (Joystiq)
@Faceless Troll

I agree in a way. I actually had some nostalgia-based attachment to Diablo, yet Blizzard has done a darn good job in killing that with Diablo 3 (and Starcraft 2 earlier). I just don't agree with this "always online" bullcrap they are forcing down our throats. I didn't agree with the "Battle.net 2.0" and its lack of features at release compared to the original (as well as the separation from it).

Torchlight 2 was always high on my list, same as Diablo 3 was at first. T2 was higher though, and all Blizzard has done is made D3 drop further down.

Mists of Pandaria: Siege of Orgrimmar

Mar 19th 2012 12:09PM (WoW)
I don't know... After we impeach Garrosh, are any of the current members of the impeachment-supporting party allowed to step up to be Warchief? Because if we can... I totally call dibs on it.
I will be a fair and just iron-fist ruler. I'm a paladin, it has to be iron because that is what I wear on my fist.

Also, my platform will be built on archaeology. I will provide everyone with 300 free points of the stuff! Along with bacon, we got the pigs to make some darn good bacon in front of Orgrimmar.

Mists of Pandaria: Pet Battles

Mar 19th 2012 12:05PM (WoW)
You know what the best image of that is though?
Illidan Stormrage is the Ash Ketchum to Lich King's Gary.

Can you just imagine Illidan running about with a mini-pet on his shoulder and an odd pokeball-styled hat on his head, singing the original theme?
Or Lich King going around with his own personal squad of Valk'yr Cheerleaders to cheer him on at every gym battle he does?

Mists of Pandaria: Cool class stuff we found

Mar 19th 2012 11:36AM (WoW)
It's no surprised, heck as soon as they mentioned "hey Monk have no auto-attack" I said that was only going to be the first of the announced "features" of Mists to be redacted.

Also, its not gonna be long until that "self-damage" aspect of fel embers is removed.

ArenaNet confirms Guild Wars 2 beta invites are in progress

Mar 17th 2012 8:30PM (Massively)
@Mikx

Why not both? I shoved a pig into a pot of water and have been sitting outside for the past several hours. I'm sun-burnt, suffering a bit of heat-induced insanity, but when that pot boils and that pig flies, I have my gun ready to shoot me down some already-cooked one-of-a-kind flying ham and bacon breakfast!

Ninja Gaiden 3 getting free DLC weapons, multiplayer stages

Mar 17th 2012 7:48PM (Joystiq)
God... if giving us weapons that were already in the games before is going to be free DLC, I wonder what will constitute "paid"? Getting the Muramasa shop? The dozens of other weapons that exist within the series?

Yeah it's nice and all, but here's the thing. This stuff isn't being "released" with the main game because its a last minute addition. They aren't confident in their "sword only" combat, or probably most of the game in general, and are just wanting to try and win back some fans by going "oh hey? see we totally love more than the sword!"

Infinity Blade 2 updated for iPad 3, new content teased for next month

Mar 16th 2012 8:58PM (Joystiq)
@Dale P

There's no reason they couldn't bring a game practically like it though to other systems though. Heck, Dark Souls IS Demon's Souls, the only change was the name, but was enough to let From Software branch it out to the 360, and possible PC (since it hasn't been outright dismissed).

They could just make "Unlimited Edge" or "Neverending Sword", though I guess Augustus of Asura's Wrath might lay claim to the latter.
