iPhone OS 4 news coming Apr. 8 [updated]

Apr 6th 2010 8:39AM (Joystiq)
I'm guessing the MAIN feature Apple will announce will be an almost-multitasking capability based on app state saving. The switching component of this feature might even be called "sneak peak" or something similar since it's not going to be nearly as cool as Expose.

They'll probably hint at some new iPhone models. Tell us that iPhoneOS 4 won't run on 1st gen iPhones (or even 3G iPhones) and tell us that we'll ALL have to pay for the upgrade. Why do we love this company again? I guess we'll know on Friday.

Ok, I'm surprised no one's said it yet but...

it's the Danger Room.

Steve Jobs on iPad tethering with iPhone: "No."

Mar 8th 2010 9:57AM (Download Squad)
Ok Steve. You're just giving me another reason to pick up an Android-based device when my 3GS finally dies or becomes (completely) obsolete. Because I sure as hell am not paying for two separate data plans... there's a reason I chose "unlimited" for my iPhone.

The only market Apple is really fishing for with the 3g/data plan model of the iPad are the folks who haven't picked up the iPhone yet... you know, the people who don't care for Apple to begin with.

Sony wants to patent 'feature erosion' in game demos, illustrates the idea vividly

I think you've inverted how this would be used in a driving game. Instead of fewer tracks/time, they would probably use it to degrade parts of your car over time. You know, making the game more realistic!

After 6 months you have to pay to change your virtual oil. After a year you have to change your virtual brakes. And you can implement this in various ways too! You can pay in one lump sum to purchase a new (virtual) car warranty, or you can just buy each element separately. And if you want to win those virtual races and get invited to the big (virtual) leagues, you'll do it!!!

Like everyone else says... it's a feature, not a bug... just making your game more realistic.

Does that guy in the background without a shadow on his foot have anything to do with the plot?

Talkcast tonight, 10 pm: Apple sings a new tune with Lala acquisition

Isn't this where we insert jokes about "Lala land?".

Seriously though, this is worrying me about Apple now having an excuse to oust apps like Pandora from the app store.

AT&T 'hits' back at Verizon's Map for That campaign with an 'ad' of its own

AT&T sues Verizon over 'there's a map for that' ads

Nov 13th 2009 9:33AM (Engadget)
My 3G coverage is fine where I live, but AT&T doesn't really have a case here except to convince someone that consumers are idiots. Despite the fact that most of them are, Verizon got the map directly from AT&T's website. AT&T really has no comeback from here.

Although it was pretty clever for Verizon to keep the back door open for the iPhone in the Misfit Toys commercial. "Why are you here? You're such a cool phone! Oh, it's because you have a second-rate network, that's why!"

A dead Santa Claus (I was 5). I thought he had fallen and hit his head on my in-table. I wasn't so scared that he was dead (zombie movies never scared me), but for about about 30 seconds I thought the rest of the kids in the world would be pissed at me and come for vengeance.

Windows 7 review

Oct 22nd 2009 2:18PM (Engadget)
Aero Snap loses some of its functionality when dealing with an extended desktop. I'm forced to resort to using the Windows key and arrows instead of just dragging the windows to the edge of the screen when I have multiple screens if I want the 50/50 feature to work as it should. Even when Microsoft has a feature that Apple doesn't, they still can't get it right.
