Japanese hardware sales, 11 Dec - 17 Dec: Christmas courtesy edition

Dec 22nd 2006 4:49PM (Joystiq)
What do you mean over night success? The 360 has been out there for ages now. This was THE game to turn things around and it ain't happening.

The onslaught has begun and it's not going to get any better for MS.

Ashton, certainly a challenge I would be willing to take however I never suggested I was any better, simply that historically speaking, for as long as I can remember, he hasn't been accurate. At all.

regarding other analysts, while I too can't name too many outside of Pachter that's because he works for a large firm and that's often what the major publications pick up. That doesn't mean he's good, or right, just that he gets coverage (kinda like EA games...)

He is absolutely a quack. I've been following him for years and constantly wonder why he still has a job. Or why anyone else takes his advice for that matter... Clearly has no insight into games, or gamers. He simply toes the company lines, except for Nintendo.

But then again no gave them a chance with the DS, and many still don't with the Wii despite the DS's success. That's not entirely surprising because it's still too early to tell but will anyone be surprised if Nintendo ends up back on top? I certainly won't (It's not a prediction but stranger things have happened).

Will Assault Heroes revive Xbox Live Arcade?

I don't necessarily agree with every point in the post, but I think in general XBLA has been a been a big disappointment for me given the fact that I actually looked forward to seeing new titles released and there were little of any value.

And to the cocksucker who called me a dipshit, no demo prepared anyone for the ass-raping those of us took on that purchase.

I agree with Joystiq on this one... The fact is, you're basing your sole opinion on two of the most recent releases while the vast majority of titles released have been piss-poor arcade ports.

After Lumines, I completely wrote off all XBLA games and anything microtransaction related. I'll gladly go spend my money on Virtual Console games; at least I know exactly what I'm getting.

Viva Piņata missing from top Xbox Live titles

As Jonah mentions, the reason it's not getting any play online is that it's completely convoluted. I spent the better part of 30 minutes looking for it initially; even went as far as to watch the online safety video.

It wasn't until after I reached a particular level that online even became available. I was actually convinced that the damn feature was actually cut (what little functionality they actually put into it)

Features like that should be available, or at least visible but locked, right out of the box.

I love the art style and think the concept is incredibly brilliant. I really wanted to enjoy the game but in my opinion it doesn't hold a candle to Animal Crossing - which was exactly what this was conceived from.

I'm not saying it's bad, I just think they could've done more with it.

Elebits looking elementary

You bitch if there isn't online support and you bitch if it's not enough.

What's the deal? Can you ever be happy? For Nintendo's target audience this will be perfect!

Goodbye PSP 3.00, hello PSP 3.01

Nobody is jealous when it comes to the PSP. Maybe PSP gamers are jealous they get the shaft, no?

Is the Xbox 360's high attach rate bad?

Nov 21st 2006 1:54PM (Joystiq)
The fact is the hardware is still too expensive, games are too expensive and then to top it off to get the 'full' experience you're nickle and dimed by the publishers.

I can't see this hardware gaining mass market appeal anytime soon. Sure it does a lot of things, but I can't name any clear advantage over any other console out there. While some of the Live features are nice, the experience is ruined by the additional costs you incur once you do go on.

While I know many will defend the 360 (it's definitely got some nice things about it), I tend to liken it a machine made by SEGA.

Secret "Simple Start" Wi-Fi connection? [Update 1]

My guess is that it's some sort of debug feature.
